Upgrade to Service Pack 3, ie8 will work better and should solve the lag time between audio and video.
I also run windows XP and never run into that problem, between research and speculation I 'am at a loss at this point. Can you tell me about what type of internet provider you go through and your connection speed? any information will help.
You can go to add and remove and uninstall ie8, I notice you ran into this problem when you upgraded the browser. Uninstall ie8 and reboot the computer, now re-install ie8, might just solve the problem.
Unfortuneately Microsoft blocked ie9 for XP windows and reserved it for vista and window 7, to bad because it adds extra security features and it is a lighter browser. It would not hurt to see if microsoft offers options for software upgrades for your hardware before you decide to uninstall, also check under help and click online support.

Thanks for responding, but your answer didn't tell me anything. You see, I'm already running XP Professional ever since I had the hard total wiped, about 4 years now. So Service Pack 3 was already running when I upgraded to ie8. The sound when I watch a program or movie on (i.e. Hulu) - well let's just say it reminds me of old Japanese movies - where the sound comes out, but the video has a few seconds lag time - what's with that?
Thanks John, but before I do that, should I update any sound drivers? Should I go through Microsoft to do that, or is there somewhere I can get sound driver updates? Or would upgrading to ie9 help fix the problem? But before I do that, how does ie8 and ie9 compare? Heard any rumors? I only updated to ie8 because I was getting messages the my browser wasn't compatible with some of the websites I visit - Youtube being one of them.
