it's not a heat related shut down. it was shutdown to be moved to a different office. when we tried to restart it nothing, switch does not even power the board on. jumped the atx power supply and everything comes on, fans, drives, board lights, but board does not come on at all, no beep, no screen activity no keyboard lights nothing at all. more then likely motherboard failure. so now the question is what model motherboard is in this unit.

Hi, This is a Planner issue (Mother Board) . Open side cover and investigate capacitor status . Probably some capacitors are bulged . Check it and replace if necessary . Good Luck

bad battery in mother board it looks just like a watch battery if this isnt the case your power box is burnt you will have to replace the hole power box.
it only ur fan problem which one of the four fan or two ,might be stuck or jammed which starts after of couple of restarts, so i sugest u to check the fans when in operation
good day
dells power supplies must come from dell. I would call dell and give then the service tag number of your server and they will be able to tell you about how much a power supply is.
In my experience when a server/computer does absolutely nothing when the power button is pressed it is a dead processor. That may not be the case in your situation. It could be as simple as a defective power switch. Is the switch a soft touch or does it push in and click? Does the switch feel normal when pushed? One of the power supplies could also be bad. Do you have any good power supplies to test in the server? Were there any power outages recently that could have caused damage to the PSU? I would start with checking the switch. You could hook up a circuit tester and see if the switch completes the circuit when depressed. Also take a look inside the server and look for any loose connections on the mainboard. It is possible the wire for the power switch has come loose.
Please verify if your server power specs support 110 or 220 V. If you are in the US, eventhough you might have connected a 220V cable the line voltage can be 110. Check with your power company if they can provide you the necessary wattage of the server.(Specs are printed on the power supply. you can read it from HP web also)
Once you are sure that, connect both power suppllies and try booting.
If the error still occurs, it can be a power supply failure or some other hardware failure.
Hi Yunisa,
I need a little more info on this issue. Do you hear the power supply fan operating when you switch the server on? Did the server still startup even though the monitor is not displaying? Did this problem just occur or where there other signs of a problem coming? This may sound a little foolish to you, but check to make sure that the server is plugged into power and that the monitor is connected properly. There should at least be a message on the monitor indicating there is no signal coming to the monitor. The first thought that comes to mind if all is connected would be that the power supply has failed. Please check this out and get back to me with info.
