The VCR has at least four "heads" two are for 2 hr and two for 6 hour (sp and slp)

It is most likely one of the heads used in the SLP mode is slightly blocked with tape debris--heads need to be manually cleaned in the right way.

SOURCE: Sound goes up and down when recording with VCR

This is usually caused by poor contact between the tape and heads or the tape fluctuating as it goes through. First try a cleaning tape and see if that improves matters. Then get a friend to show you how to clean the tape path with alcohol and q tips.I assume there is no picture disturbance? There could also be other reasons like the auto level not working properly but start with the basics.
I hope I have been of help but please do not hesitate to ask if you have any further questions.

SOURCE: Magnavox ZV427MG9 DVD Recorder VCR Combo DVD tray

There is typically a small rubber belt or plastic gear that goes between the tray motor and the tray. Most modern units have the plastic gear. I would bet that it is missing a tooth or stripped its teeth or possibly fell off completely. You should be able to manually push the drawer in. To open it, there should be a small hole near the tray into which you can push a straightened-out paper clip.

Good luck!

SOURCE: Just purchased this Magnavox DVD/VCR combo

I hope you are connecting 5 RCA jacks when using the component video out. HDMI cable carries both audio and video over one single cable but the component video has 5 jacks, 3 for video ( Red/Blue/Green ) and 2 for audio ( Red/White ).

SOURCE: I have a Magnavox ZV427MG9

The design of the combo does not support RF output from its internal tuner. You have to use audio video or s-video output to TV. Or you have to add an RF modulator from Philips to output RF channel 3/4 analog connection. Combo RF output is just pass through DTV antenna connection.

Tape playback on Magnavox MWR20V6

When was the last time you ran the "head cleaning" tape in the machine? As tape collects dust and dirt - it gets deposited on the recording and playback heads. This ruins playback and recording quality. Also, since tape is magnetic - they tend to magnetize the heads, too (just like reel to reel, 8 track & cassette player / recorders). Demagnetizing them will help too. Here are links to both products:

Magnavox ZV427MG9 DVD Recorder VCR Combo plays vcr for about 5 second then stops and shut off, when turned back on it ejects the tape.

This combo has a problem with the vcr unit which take up wheel will stop working and spill the tape. the unit will stop and eject the tape. You have to replace the whole vcr assembly.

How do I change the vcr to 'SLP' - it seems to be stuck on 'SP'. (There is no "speed" button on my remote.)

Use the remote to get into the setup menus. There may be an option to change tape speed when recording. Alternatively, when you press record on the remote (or deck), you may have option to change the tape speed there.

The VCR part of your deck may be able to playback, but not record in SLP mode.

Searched around for the manual for your machine, and though there are references to it, it appears that a manual / information page doesn't exist for the model # that you listed.

Picture rolls and the tracking is off.

do the heads need cleaning? sounds like the heads are seriously out of alignment? take off the vcr cover get a philip scrdrv. put tape in. and play. theres an AC head just to the right of the drumhead. jiggle it around gently. u may have to adjust those 3 screws (precison) to put it back in proper adjustmant. also take the tapes u used in that vcr. open the top flap and inspect. are there marks? is there a line going the bottom portion of the tape. if so , it definitely is out of alignment.

VCR tape playback not good

Check your "tracking" If the tape played fine in the old machine, then tracking is the answer, provided that the new machine records good.

Playing slp mode picture rolls

the video and control heads are probably dirty. a video cleaning tape might work, otherwise you will need to get a proffessional to clean if for you.
