Yes they both need replacing.

This set needs a fluid change. Between the face of the picture tubes and projection lens there is a layer of coolant fluid. The fluid has turned a milky brown color and is degrading the picture. The tubes have to be removed in order to do this properly. I would suggest you contact a repair shop and have them check it out for you as this can be very complicated. These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony, Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer, Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.

change the coolant in the CRTs A common problem with phillips rear projection is that the coolant becomes congealed and then the set will have dim colors and very hard to focus

you may want to call in a repairman to correct the resy of the problem so that its done right the first time and you dont have to keep messing with it if you want it to look as god as possible
