Jenn-air micro convection - cooling fan comes on when door is opened, then goes off, intermintent problem

It sounds like the convection cooling fan comes on when the door is opened even though it was using microwave, not convection. It turns off when the door is closed and stops running when it wants to. It also doesn't happen every time. Intermittent problems are a challenge!

I have seen where one of the door switches becomes intermittent causing the symptoms you are describing, tough to nail down considering there are more than one door switches.

The model number does not make any difference in this case.

SOURCE: Microwave oven runs with door open

This is usually caused by either a bad door switch, a loose door switch mount.

Even though a door switch clicks, it may still be bad inside. Its continuity must be checked.

Door switch or mount trouble can be caused by slamming the door or by opening the door while it's cooking without hitting the Stop pad first.

SOURCE: Microwave won't function.

This is usually caused by either a bad door switch, a loose door switch mount (which are pretty simple problems to fix) or occasionally a problem on the control panel.

Even though a door switch clicks, it may still be bad inside.

Door switch or mount trouble is usually caused by slamming the door or by opening the door while it's cooking without hitting the Stop pad first.

There are plastic mounts inside the microwave which hold the door switches and onto which the door latches lock when you close the door.

The screws on these mounts may be loose. If they get too loose, the switches will not be activated properly.

Sometimes it's a broken tab on the switch holder, allowing the switch to rotate just out of position. This tab can be hard to see, since it is under the bottom edge of the switch.

If you or someone you know decide to look into it, we have critical information on safety, disassembly and door switches at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa:.

You can usually find exploded views and order parts by entering your model number at the Sears parts site.

A full Sears/Kenmore model number has 3 digits, a dot, then 8 more digits, such as ###.########

There may also be a "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting & testing.

If you only need a switch, you can order a universal type here for $5 postpaid.

If you think the problem is on the control panel, we repair these nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid in most cases.

Microwave makes noise after door is opened jenn air model jmv9169ba

Microwave ovens emit powerful radio waves and in general for safety reason should only be used when in perfect working order. It usually costs more to repair an older microwave oven than to simply replace it.
Suggest buy a new one.

My Jenn-air micro/convection oven runs, but there's no heat. I don't know how to use it as its all new to me.

Hi

This means a loose/broken wire on the oven temp sensor or the oven temp. sensor itself is bad and should be replaced. To solve this issue test the oven temp. sensor, it should read between 1080-1120 ohms, if the rating is more then that and the door appears to be closing fine then it is the control board that is bad and should be replaced. Hope this helps...please post back for further assistance.

Just wondering if I can use metal in my convection/microwave Jenn Air combo on the CONVECTION setting only.

On the convection setting it's just a regular fan oven, so you can safely use metal.

Fan is loud and almost sounds stuck and the food does not heat at all. Now it died all together. No lights on. Is it worth fixing?

From your the description the magnetron has failed, "heats food" the exhaust fan has seized which keeps the magnetron cool when running, and finally the main fuse has opened, It is far cheaper to replace the microwave oven than repairing it.

Every time I open the door to the microwave, it goes on automatically. Even if I press the button on the door, the microwave goes on. Should I just buy a new one, or is it an easy fix?

most likely the door latch assembly and or the door switch has failed... there are approx. 3 micro switches located where the door closes... these switches all operate items such as the cooling fan, timer, clock assembly etc... sounds like one of these micr switches have failed and will require getting inside to exam with a meter and check contuinity on close and open when switch is open...good luck to you...

Microwave stopped heating food.

When you hit "Start" to microwave, do the inside light, cooling fan, and turntable all come on?

If not, then you probably have a bad door switch or door switch mount and should see these files:

http://www.microwavedisplay.com/safety.txt
http://www.microwavedisplay.com/disassembly.txt
http://www.microwavedisplay.com/doorsw.txt

If the inside light, cooling fan, and turntable are all coming on, then the problem is in the high voltage section, and then the next questions arise:

Any unusual noises? Is it louder or quieter than usual?

We have a sound clip of what a microwave should sound like when the cooling fan and high voltage section are operating here.

A loud buzz, hum, or groan is usually a shorted high voltage rectifier diode, but a sound like gurgling into an empty coffee mug is one symptom of a failed magnetron, and yet the mag can be bad without that sound.

If there's no unusual noise, it may just be a bad connection at the magnetron.

Here are some links you or someone you know can use (in order given) for high voltage section test help, but read the safety warnings first:

http://www.gallawa.com/microtech/diode.html
(if it is NOT shorted or burned looking, it's probably fine)

http://www.gallawa.com/microtech/mag_test.html
(continuity can be good even though mag is bad!)

Accessing some parts may require you to pull the oven from the wall and remove the cover.

If so, the installation instructions are very handy, and it's best to have two people since the microwave can be heavy and awkward.

You can download owner's manuals and installation instructions for several brands (including Amana, Jenn-Air, Kitchenaid, Litton, Maytag, Roper, Tappan, Thermador and Whirlpool) here.

Turntable won't stop

Sounds like a door switch problem or stuck relay contacts on the control PCB. Do the light and fan run too or just the T/T??
