Did you try to check if the same issue occurs with a different headset?
• Do you remember making any software/hardware changes after which the issue started?

You should have sound from the speakers at all times until headphones are plugged into the jack, the jack then overrides the speakers and allows you to listen using the headphones. If the speakers aren't working, it's because they're being overridden by the damaged jack. The only way to correct this is to replace the faulty jacks. You could get a set of external speakers, the con is they're bulky and inconvenient.

Hi you can try this:
From Start, go into Control Panel, then select Sounds, Speech & Audio devices, then Sounds and Audio Devices again.
On Volume tab, click on Advanced. Now choose Laptop stereo speakers. This may sort out the problem. Try the other options if they still don't work.

you will have to uninstall your audio device, and uninstall SKYPE and re install the audio device and don't re install SKYPE, you can do this by going to add or remove programs, and remove SKYPE first and unplug u r headset and mic, and after removing skype you can reboot the computer, and sometimes the conflict is resolved, otherwise then go into your device manager in system manager and find audio devices, unistall the driver or Update the driver, and reinstall it and the reboot, that should take care of the problem.
