I have lost the original screws from the back of the tv used to mount it to a wall bracket, does anyone know the size and type of screw i need for this model?

First of all a standard screw will not work. You will have to visit your local hardware store and purchase a machine screw to fix the problem. In many cases you will have to use an estimated guess and gamble your time and money. The length and width of the machine screw will be found at this store. The effort is miniscule and money will be meager. Remember, do not use a standard screw!

did you ever find a solution for this? the same thing happened to me, and now philips wont repair the mounting hole. I am so mad and will never buy another Philips again!

42" will more likely to use Metric M6 screws (canbe M5 but not likely), the length of the screws will depend on the thickness of the mounting plates. When you buy wall mounting kit, it will come with mounting screws. You can get Metric screw from HD or Lowe's for about 50 cents each.
I get my wall mounts from Costco and they come with a bag of Metric screws fro mounting.
