I have exactly the same problem, I replaced the bulb once, but now the TV will start "howling" after a period of time being on, and the picture will flicker and then black out. I am guessing that it is the fan?I have exactly the same problem, I replaced the bulb once, but now the TV will start "howling" after a period of time being on, and the picture will flicker and then black out. Easy one. Your lamp needs replaced. part number is labeled on the lamp itself and is easily accessed from the rear of the TV. Approximately 6" lamp cover removes with a few screws then a couple more for the lamp. Simply pull out and replace. Cost for the lamp is around $219. Make sure to replace with OEM parts.
the bulb may have burst from overheating from a fan not working to cool it down. and it can be replaced. it does take, however, a while to replace it because you have to take half of it apart. but make sure it's the fan first. take the lamp door off and remove the lamp. use something small and thin to push in the switch that the lamp door usually activates. turn the projector on and see if the lamp fan and the colorwheel (the multicolor glass disk) are spinning. if the fan spins, the noise may be from the colorwheel motor going bad. the fan can be purchased through an infocus authorized service center. check the website for the closest one. but the colorwheel for the x1 cannot be purchased seperately from the optical engine, and that costs a fortune. but here is the part number for the 80mm fan- 526-0152-00.
I just replaced my lamp for the second time in three years . Now the fan is really loud .I have no idea.
