NTLDR is the boot loader for windows XP. This is the part the kick starts the entire process of XP loading. It is located at C:\NTLDR One of the easier ways to fix this is Either boot in to the recover console from a Windows XP disc, or download Hiren Boot CD, burn it to a disc. Insert the CD into your Dell and reboot the computer. Note you may need to enter BIOS and enable boot to CD/DVD. Once at the Hiren menu, select Boot Mini XP. Once the Mini XP loads you can copy NTLDR loader from the mini xp to your C:\ drive. Then remove the disc and reboot the computer.

SOURCE: NTLDR Missing, Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart

What happened is when you changed the drive letters you switched one that should not have been changed.... You need to change it back so the original C: is C:

Because the original NTLDR file was on the C: drive which is the Windows XP Boot Loader and when you swapped it it couldnt find the ntldr on the new C:

From my opinion the only way to switch it back is to reinstall the OS onto the drive you want to be C:

SOURCE: NTLDR missing while clean install

Well Bart CD that everyone downloads has some nice utilities on it, some free some not.
You have to be carefull using such utilities as they can cause more harm then good...
You now have to reinstall windows before you can apply sp3. Sp3 is not bootable and bart CD doesn't have windows install of any kind on it... Reinstall windows with your disc then browse to your cd and double click on sp3 to update...
Hope everything works out now....
Please rate this solution if it helps... Thank You...

I have just had microsoft security essentials upgrade come up, I dont use my computer a lot and wonder if I need this upgrade , I am still learning to use my computer and feel unsure about whether to...

these are usually updates for the Microsoft security features. If you have your own security features, you may opt not to install the updates, but if you use Microsoft security features, would be a good idea to let the update install.

My dell computer doesn't produce any sounds and norton anti virus when installed doesn't work. Thanks in advance for the Help. noiz

First, go to the microsoft website and download microsoft security essentials

Second, go to dell website and download and install the ac97 drivers for your model of dell, those are required for the sound to work.

Third, uninstall Norton and install the security essentials.

That will give you anti-virus/malware protection, it's free, and works better than Norton.

Then, reboot, let system get all way booted up, then click start, and at the very top on the right hand side, click on Windows Update.

Follow all steps as directed.

That should fix your problem.

Oh, almost forgot, launch Security Essentials and run a FULL system scan before you run Windows update, that way you make sure you are good to go first.

NTLDR missing

I can get into the Boot First Screen but can't seem to change anything within it... These screens seems to be selectively responsive to my key presses.... I can get the bios screen up, boot order screen up but not necessarily do anything within them... e.g. I can't restart the pc using ctrl alt del when the missing NTLDR message appears.... also I have put an XP disc in and it says to press any key to BOOT from CD .... I Do so but obviously it doesn't recognise it so it gives me the missing NTLDR message again! :(
