The Brinks 42-1009 EZ Vacation Timer is preset with 7 full days. You cannot choose when it goes on and off.

To set, spin the dial (clockwise only) until the arrow in the upper right of the center face is near the current day and time. Plug everything in and switch the upper tab to the right. On certain days, it will turn on in the early morning as well as evening or late night.

You cannot choose when to turn the light off. However, if you are home, you can turn the light on by switching the upper tab to the left. Remember to switch it back to the right in order to activate the timed on/off periods.

SOURCE: I bought brinks ez dial

Smart thinking using wall timer instead of buying new coffee pot.
I'll remember that tip.

I test timers.
A lot of timers arrive defective, and other stop working short while later.
Some last for many years.

On your timer, make sure slide switch is pushed all the way over to TIMER or TIMER ON.
Plug regular lamp into timer, turn lamp ON, and manually rotate timer dial clockwise to see if timer trippers will turn lamp ON-and-OFF.
If timer functions with manual rotation, then see if dial rotates on it's own.
The dial should rotate, or else timer is defective.
If dial rotates, and timer works for lamp, then double check that your coffee pot is ON at all times.
The timer just opens the circuit to coffee pot, but coffee pot has to be ON.

Also take advantage of fixya phone support for any type of problem.
For a price, fixya expert talks to you over phone to resolve repair issues.

I need to know how to operate my GE 50462 timer switch

This timer cannot be programmed.
Timer has pre-set program to turn lights or appliances on-off at random times so home looks occupied. GE 7-Day Random Vacation Timer turns lamps or appliances on or off during late evening and early morning hours, confusing potential burglars.
Rotate dial clockwise until current day and time lines up with pointer, and plug in.

Got a brinks EZ- dial timer model42-1034B @ Walmart a few days ago can not seem to get it to work, Inst, seem so easy too. I read on some forum online someone thought the am/pm may be backwards to how it...

1) This Brinks timer is a bit lightweight for an appliance (unless for coffeemaker or tiny gerbil-feeding motor)
You might need 1/3 HP (horsepower) appliance timer like Woods 59201
http://waterheatertimer.org/Woods-timers-and-manuals.html#59201
http://www.amazon.com/Woods-59201-Appliance-Grounded-3-Prong/dp/B001Q9EFTQ
Intermatic HB113C is for heavier appliances
http://www.amazon.com/Intermatic-Hb113c/dp/B000GHKO6C
http://waterheatertimer.org/images/Intermatic-HB114C-plug-in-4.jpg

2) How to set the Brinks:
I will use lamp as example since you can easily test the timer using a lamp.
Turn lamp ON. Make sure bulb is good.
Leave lamp turned ON and plug lamp into timer.
Move slide switch one direction.
Plug timer into outlet.
Manually rotate timer dial clockwise and see if lamp turns on-off
Move slide switch other direction, and rotate dial clockwise again to see if lamp turns on-off.

Now you know which way switch has to be moved.
Push down trippers and rotate around dial until they line up with 1:00 on dark part of dial and 5:00 on dark part of dial. Dark is for pm hours.

Last step: Set current time: rotate dial clockwise until current time lines up with arrowhead located on inner dial
Dial rotates at time passes, trippers push lever that turns circuit on-off.

Also take advantage of fixya phone service.
For a price, expert speaks with you over phone while you work on water heater or any do-it-yourself project.
Fixya is always less expensive than a service call.
