Your answer to my whirlpool duet dryer problem

You said it may be the door switch. It has been checked out with a multi-meter and it checks out fine according to the manual. Is there something I am missing or anything else I could do to check the switch? Jumper it maybe? ~Beganit
I forgot to mention in my original post that the heavy duty light is dim and stays on all the time unless the dryer is unplugged. It doesn't change when the dial is turned. Except occasionally when that dim light goes off the dryer will work as normal. It will come on and dry clothes like it is supposed to. Also the high temperature light is on dimly and stays on like the heavy duty one.

You have got a bad connection somewhere, it could be in the timer unit,or the door switch, take off the top and shake the wires with a rubber glove on, the machine would have to be on to do this,be careful, you can by pass the switch by joining the two wires If there is just two.If only I had it in my work shop, but Ireland is too far away good luck.top of the morning to you as all us paddys say!

The sound on my whirlpool duet dryer has stopped entirely. Even when you press the power button. How do I fix this?

Electric dryer no start does nothing

Check dryer Terminal block prongs both outside prongs should give combined 220, and 110 each if u check 1 outside & 1 center (ground) prong. Also check house electrical outlet for full voltage.

CHECK THERMAL SHUT OFF THERMOSTAT USUALLY LOCATED ON THE BLOWER. for OHMS or resistance with a meter. Should show a closed circuit. Ohms WHEN THIS FUSE BLOWS IT WILL SHUT DOWN EVERYTHING.

NEXT Test the PUSH start switch with meter for OHMS. Should show OHMS when pushed in or on start, and no ohms or infinity when in off position.

If you hear a humming/clicking sound from motor area you more than likely have a bad motor.
Try this test out to see if u have weak windings or relay/capacitor on motor.
Open the dryer door and turn by hand the drum while machine is onONposition. And you or someone else presses the door engagement switch in. If it starts up then u have bad windings

Another thing to check is the belt safety switch. With a multi meter.
Especially if u just replaced the belt. The belt safety switch is attached to theTensionerand motor. IT LOOKS LIKE A DOOR SWITCH SOMEWHAT a little black pc of plastic with 2 prongs going into it. Sits at bottom of motor. Under theTensioner. Attach meter clips to the 2 prongs on switch, Then when the little white push button is pressed in it should show continuity and none when released.

Lastly checkurDOOR SWITCH ?for continuity with a meter when the button is pushed in the (on/Door closed position,) it may have gone bad.

    Hi,

Ok, lets first check your thermal fuse.

You would need to take off the lower front access panel under your door, then take off the duct assembly#45, by removing the two #11 screws as shown in your parts diagram here: Bulkhead parts for Whirlpool GEW9250PW1

Unplug or turn the breaker off to your dryer first before opening it up and ohm testing.

Then you will need a multimeter to ohm your thermal fuse. Its #59 in that parts diagram, take both wires off the thermal fuse first.

Here's the thermal fuse for your model you can order here if needed:
    Thermal Fuse WP3392519

This video shows how to test it:

Let us know what you find.

If the thermal fuse tests good, We've had a few members report door switch problems.

You can check it for continuity with a multimeter to make sure.

Here's that door switch you can order:
    Door Switch WP8283288

It shows on Page 4-6 in your repair manual I posted a link to below how to access it to check/change it. Make sure your dryer is unplugged!

Push the button in on the door switch with one meter probe on COM and the other meter probe on NO and see if it reads. Normal ohms is 0-1.

If the thermal fuse and door switch check fine, then its the control board.

Here's the control board for your model you can order here:
    Main Control Board WP8546219

I'm attaching the repair manual pdf for the Whirlpool Duet dryer below.

It shows how to get access to the control board on page 4-2 through 4-4.

Unplug or turn the breaker off to your dryer first.

below is a link to the manual

The control lock light is on. The machine will not work. I tried unplugging it for 1/2 hour hoping it would reset. Whirlpool Duet Washing machine

The door will have to pried open and door switch will have to be tested or replaced. You can use a multi-meter or ohmmeter.
Worst possible cause is faulty eprom or control board but usually is faulty switch or door sensor.
