VGA / Onboard graphics Issue

Just got an old pc tower off a friend who now has a new laptop, the motherboard inside is a ASROCK 775I65GV (http://www.asrock.com/mb/overview.asp?Model=775i65GV) , was planning on using as a unix based system. Everything powers up fine apart from there is no display. Im sharing the same monitor and VGA cable from the computer i'm using right now so thats not the issue. The asrock motherboard has built in graphics. Im thinking it maybe a faulty VGA input, although i've never heard of anything like this? Any ideas would be appreciated, thanks

Yes, there may be a problem with the on board graphics, if you have a compatible graphics card you can bypass the on board.
Was the previous owner using the on-board, or did he maybe have a card that he removed? Might be worth looking in the BIOS settings in case the on board graphics has been disabled

No VGA output

Hello the drivers site is here:

http://www.asrock.com/mb/overview.asp?cat=Download&Model=G41M-VS3

The manual:

http://www.asrock.com/mb/overview.asp?cat=Manual&Model=G41M-VS3

I think you should drop the onboard graphic and install a better graphic card in the 1 x PCI Express x16 slot on the mainboard.

Check the power supply for any fault. Is it new ???
You can not use the old Power supply because it might have a 20 pin connector this asrock has a 24 pin connector.
Check also you not have used the extenal graphic power connector in the 4 pin 12 + volt on the mainboard.
Check also all your power connections.

Reply me again if you can`t find the fault.

Good luck

No display

Hi st_niclaus,
(Note: ASRock does not list the FX 5500 series AGP graphics card on their web site).
To confirm this please see the VGA supported list at ASRock, click this link:
http://www.asrock.com/mb/vga.asp?Model=775i65gv&s=775&c=VGA
There is an order that should be followed when upgrading from using the onboard video to the AGP card.
Check your bios setting. See Init. Graphic Adapter Priority page 27 & 28 in manual.
Set to: [AGI/PCI/Onboard].
Also see instructions on how to install, AGI slot: on page 17.
AGI = ASRock Graphics Interface.
If your display still does not function after making these changes, it is possible your FX 5500 is not compatible with your board.
(Suggest you buy one from the list provided by ASRock's supported link above).

Good luck st_niclaus!

Mike
