What causes a black screen to have a pinkish tinge with visible lines on a cathode ray sony kd34xbr960n? And what might it cost to repair?

The image seems to be good when there's an image. But a black screen is pinkish, or in letter-box format the black perimeter is pinkish. Seems to be a recent phenomenon. The set gets a lot of use and is almost 7 years old.

SOURCE: No Picture on my Sony KP-53HS10

The set might have lost the high voltage needed to light up the picture tubes, the easiest thing to check is for a loose conection in the horizontal drive transformer first ,the power supply and the output transformer area, you can try to find it by removing the back cover ,repluging the set, turn it on and with a wooden or rubber handle tap in different areas of the chassis to see if it reacts, you might have to keep pressing the power button while you are trying. If you are familiar with tv service you have a few places to check, some resoldering might be needed, you might need to check the output transistor for a short ,if the transistor went bad it did take a fuse or safety resistor. If you are not too familiar I would suggest to call for help from a servicer,I dont think is time for a new set just yet but an estimate will help you decide.Let us know how it goes or if you need more information.

SOURCE: no picture on half of screen

The vertical output IC is most likely the cause. On a 27 inch TV the generic part number is AN5522 the location number ic IC561. Be careful of dangerous voltages within the TV powered on or off.

SOURCE: Missing Green colour on 36" Sony FD Trinitron WEGA

This is not a problem that a reset will fix. THe 5 blinks is a code that indicates a problem with the AKB circuit. There is a possibility that the picture tube is starting to fail, but that is rare. If you are comfortable working inside the set where there are potentially dangerous high voltages even when unplugged, let me know and I will provide additional details and instructions for a couple of repair options.

SOURCE: My Sony trinitron tube Tv 36" seems to be going (its 10 years old

no ....the tube will end up after 20 yrs in 10 yr old sony...
it is worth if u fix it. randomly going black means...horizontal driver trans former is the problem..or any loose contact with the 110 volt supply to that transformer,,or any loose contact with line o/p transformer.. (horizontal driver transformer may be gone
then tv behaves like this) if any other parts gone tv wont come back.... there may be a loose contact call a service pro..

Testimonial: "Great response... I basically needed to know if it is worth fixing (if its the tube) I like this tv and don't want to ditch for a new flat screen. thx"

SOURCE: no picture, no sound

The power supply is not starting up. The most likely cause is two defective integrated circuits in the power supply section. If you are technical, I can supply you with the part numbers and where they are located.

Hi, I had a problem with my Sony CRT television.

The faint background lines are vertical flyback lines. Start your diagnosis by turning the brightness and contrast controls to minimum and view the screen in a darkened room. If you can now see a raster with horizontal lines visible then it is likely that the tubes A1 screen voltage is excessive. The screen voltage is usually within the range of 400v to 600v. Adjustment for this is often part of the flyback transformer. Check all high value resistors
in the screen and focus circuitry. Some of these reistors may be
built into the flyback transformer. As the picture gets brighter the beam current increases, this will eventually cause the X ray protection circuits to trigger shuting off the set. A fault in the video drive circuits to the cathodes of the tube will cause similar symptoms but usualy results in a predominance of one colour, ie
bright red, blue or green raster with flyback lines.

Gateway VX 920 Diamatron monitor has wavy lines at bottom

Since this is a CRT (Cathode Ray Tube) It is no longer cost effective to repair them. Your Tube Driver circuit (internal non-serviceable parts) is starting to fail.

No image in my screen

When you ask for help, give make and model number. In this case, if display is a CRT type (cathode ray tube, not LCD), then a horizontal single line in the center of the screen indicates a lack of vertical deflection. If it is a vertical line in the center of the screen, it is a lack of horizontal deflection. Both problems can be caused by any number of components, all internal, and requires a technican to repair. Lowrance has a fixed fee system for their factory repairs. See their online info for support: http://www.lowrance.com/en/Support/Service-Information/Service-Rates/

Black line down lefthand side of screen about 1" thick

The monitor is old. It could be slightly adjusted. But when you start getting lines, soon the image becomes blurry, and during CRT death the Cathode Ray Tube radiates 100 times the radiation of a healthy monitor.

Toshiba tecra M2 LCD Screen

A pinkish tint is indication that the backlight tube inside the screen is not fully lit. But then it goes black - meaning the tube shut down? That part don't make much sense - it's certainly possible, though.

Replacing tubes is pretty surgical so I wouldn't recommend it. Replacing the screen should be pretty darn easy. A good, used screen should be pretty cheap on eBay, so that's where I'd start.

LCD won't project

You may have a problem with the image sensor device (CCD). From October 3, 2005 through October 2, 2007, Sony will repair, free of charge, affected products exhibiting the above-mentioned problem where it is caused by the image sensor device. Sony will also cover the cost of shipping and handling from and to addresses within the United States and US Territories for service to correct this issue. To see if you have this problem: Power On your camcorder (make sure the battery is fully charged). Check the LCD screen and verify that the display icons are turned on. If you cannot see the icons, press the Display button until the icons are visible. Put a tape in the camcorder. With the lens cap off, record some video. NOTE: Be sure to speak during the recording so the video will contain your voice. Rewind this section of the tape (using tape counter to verify start of your recording). Play back the recorded video and use the LCD screen on the camcorder to view it. You should hear the audio you recorded and the Display icons/text will still appear. If your camcorder is affected by this CCD issue, the picture will either be extremely distorted, or there will be no visible picture (just a blank LCD screen with the display icons still visible).
