My tappan oven (Model 79 4960 00/08) and Serial # DF 33900039, will not get hot. The range and microwave work fine, but broiler and oven will not get got. when trying to warm up the oven, a pilot light or small flame start on bottom, but oven never gets hot. Any help?

No flame at all, just gets red. Is it cheaper at this point to buy a new oven, or should I have the ignitor fixed? And if it can be fixed, is it something I could do myself? Thanks for your help!

Do you see a flame or just getting red.sounds like a bad ignitor

  • Anonymous Dec 08, 2008

depending on your model the igniter is less than $100.00 I don't know your technical ability, The igniter is not hard to change. Unplug the oven. remove bottom of oven under the racks there are 2 screws remove them and you will see the igniter.you may need to cut the 2 wires and splice them in with ceremic wire nuts.
let me know how you do.

Why does my broiler lite when I operate my oven?

There is a possibility that the switch is not wired correctly or perhaps your selector knob is on upside down i have seen this before.

My tappan oven won't work. stove and broiler work fine. ignighter glows but it seems like there is no gas.

I would check with your manufacturer and see if a professional can diagnose the regulator and even the gas valve itself.

I have a 6 yr old Tappan stove, model TGF657BFW5. the burners work fine, but the oven and/or broiler take 5 to 10 minutes to light. when the oven and/or broiler do light, the flame is only about 1/8 to 1/4...

that ignitor should lite the flame within 40 to 60 seconds if not the ignitor is bad.even though it glows red it doesn't mean it's good it works with amps change the ignitor

I tried to cook a frozen pizza in my Tappan electric range last night (which required it to be preheated to 400 degrees) and it would not preheat at all, even after about a 3 hour wait. I just turned up...

it is the bake element and if you inspect it im sure you will find it cooked or broken
befor you actually order the part take the unit out

Wall Oven won't work

I tried randomly pushing 2 buttons at a time, and when I pushed "Timer Off/On" and "Cancel" together it unlocked and is now working fine. The following day it beeped a lot for an hour or so (must have been catching up on previous pushes) but now is back to normal.
