Did you ever get a reply to your problem? I too am having that same problem with my feed dog not moving the material and sewing in one place. What did you do to fix the problem?

I am having the same problem, The fabric moves very little unless I help it along. It embroiders fine. Here are some common reasons that the fabric won't feed: 1. Stitch length is set to zero, or machine is in button hole setting 2. Feed dogs are dropped (free motion setting) 3. Broken gears (typically in old singers) 4. Presser bar not coming down - may be bound up. 5. Lots of lint under the needle plate (in between the feed dogs) preventing feed dogs from raising.
I listened to all that...and none of it worked...so I took the plate off and gave it a good clean. Still nothing. If your machine's a bit old like mine or tends to get stuck...physically lift up the feed dog with your fingernail or a flat screw driver or something (once the plate is off), then push the feed dog lever across and release the feed dog. It should hold in place if nothing else has worked...woo!!! :)
Model ese2 babylock, used button whole features , when i went back to regular sewing my material would not feed . the switch to activate dog feed is to the left , the dog feed goes up . I would like to know what is the propper gap between dog feed and pressure foot when the dog feed is full up. Can i adjust this. A tech said it would cost $250 dollars to take off the head. appreciate your help.

"FEED DOG BUTTON" ISN'T QUITE CLEAR. HOWEVER, THE FEED DOG IS CONTROLLED BY THE STITCH LENGTH. IF THE STITCH LENGTH IS SET TO ZERO THE FEED DOG WILL STAY BELOW THE PLATE AND THE MATERIAL WON'T MOVE.
***Your feed dog under the pressure foot seems to be pulling on one side a little harder which indicates wear. It is likely to solve the problem by replacing the feed dog.
***Before you do this try to lower the pressure on the pressure foot. If the material you are sewing is thick it will have an effect on the pull of the feed dogs. The material you are sewing that you sent appears to be jeans material. It looks like it is thick and somewhat slippery.
The feed dog are probably dropped lower than the the throat plate. Most machines have a setting for darning that requires that the feed dog to be dropped below the sewing surface. There is a separate knob to change the feed dog from this lowered position so the feed dog, when the balance wheel is rotated will come up above the sewing surface to move the material. Another thing could be that the stitch length lever is set on "0". This is basically telling your machine not to advance any material through it and you will get a big knot instead
If this is a combo embroidery and sewing machine, the feed dogs have a switch to raise or lower them. If this is just a sewing machine, your feed dog linkage may be broken.
check to see if the feed dogs lever is in the up position for sewing, if not move the lever to the up position, if the feed dog lever moves and it doesn't make the machine sew, then the feed dogs need to be checked.
if you have a instruction manual for the machine, then check to find out where the feed dog lever is, and check to see if the feed dog is in the up position to sew or in the down position, if the feed dog lever is in the up position and will not feed the fabric, then the machine need to be check to see what's wrong with the feed dogs.
the problem is the feed dog is in the wrong position,, in the operation manual it should tell where the feed dog is on that sewing machine, & what position it's suppose to be in to sew normally
I hate to sound dismissive but: read the manual. Duh. It is not as written above: drop dog........ The feed dog is the toothed pieces in the sewing machine deck, under the needle, which move the material away from you when you push the operating pedal. Dropping the dog - ie making it inoperative - (see manual for how to on your machine) means the material has to be propelled by hand under the needle. This is especially good for freehand machine embroidery as it means you can move the material in any direction whilst sewing. It can be easier to freehand embroider if your material is fixed in to an embroidery hoop to hold it flat while you work.
