Vist 2 finally i was able to install vista..and could here the sounds..but i installed it as a dual boot..but i cannot find the sound manager to enable the front headphone..and if i try to install sound driver it gives an error..do i have to uninstall xp and freshly install vista and drivers..i am afraid i may not be able to install sound driver..

You cannot 'upgrade' Windows Vista to Windows XP - that is technically a 'downgrade' and would need you to save all your user data on Vista then format you Windows drive then do a clean install of Windows XP.

If you try to install XP over the top of Vista you will have lots of problems because of the difference in architecture and boot manager changes.

The only alternative would be to set up a dual-boot installation where you install XP alongside Vista but would be best done on either a separate disk partition or on a second disk. Normally such a dual-boot configuration would start with having XP installed then adding Vista as the second operating system.

For ding this you need windows xp cd

put it in your CD ROM
then press F10 to get into bios and under advanced boot priority change your first option to CD and restart ,it will ask to boot from CD,press enter
You will setup process of windows xp,it will ask you where you want to install windows xp,choose drive where windows vista is installed (c:) ,then first choose the option of format this drive using NTFS,it will format your windows vista and will start installing windows xp and in an hour's time it will be done

How to remove Ubuntu from a Vista dual-boot config

On my new PC I wanted (still want) to have toa go with Linux. I chose to experiment with Ubuntu. I downloaded thedesktop CD, burned it, freed up some disk space (inside Vista) andloaded up Ubuntu from the CD. After some experimenting I figured outhow to install Ubuntu in the empty disk space and it all worked fine(GRUB took over my booting (recognized Vista automatically!) and Ubuntuloaded up fine).

Then I tried to install my GPU drivers andeverything went wrong.. For some reason Ubuntu wouldn't boot anymore(failed to load X-Server or something). I was completely lost andwanted to remove Ubuntu.

This is where things start to get really messy!

Ifyou simply remove the Ubuntu partition, GRUB (Linux boot loader) willstill be on your PC (in control). It will trip out, as the Ubuntupartition will be removed.. Bad thing!

So you need to restore your Master Boot Record (MBR) for Vista (so that Vista will handle the booting, not GRUB).

Googleonly pointed me to sites that explained how to REMOVE VISTA, whichisn't what I wanted. Many sites talked about the 'fixmbr' command, butthis is really only available in Windows XP.

So how do you restore your MBR for Windows Vista?

1. Put the Windows Vista installation disc in the disc drive, and then start the computer.
2. Press a key when you are prompted.
3. Select a language, a time, a currency, a keyboard or an input method, and then click Next.
4. Click Repair your computer.
5. Click the operating system that you want to repair, and then click Next.
6. In the System Recovery Options dialog box, click Command Prompt.
7. Type Bootrec.exe /FixMbr, and then press ENTER.

That'sit. Now when you reboot your PC, Vista will load automatically... Youcan now safely boot using your Ubuntu desktop CD, to use the built inGnome Partition Manager to remove your Ubuntu partition!

If you want to dual boot keep these few things in mind
1. Install the lower version first(like XP & Vista)
2. Keep the 2 OS's on different partitions specially if the other OS is unix based
However first you need to download VISTA(Edition of ur choice). You will also need the mobo CD to install the drivers too. After having kept everything ready, try installing..........sodeep

The Boot Configuration Data (BCD) store contains boot configuration parameters and controls how the operating system is started in Microsoft®Windows Vista.
Remove Windows Vista From Dual Boot System Windows Vista works slightly different from earlier versions of Windows when installed on a dual boot system, in that it has a completely different boot loader.
When Windows Vista is first installed as a dual boot operating system a new boot folder is added to the root directory of your PC. This is a hidden file and therefore is not noticed. When you boot your PC a menu appears with the following options:

• Earlier versions of Windows
• Windows Vista

Clicking the Windows Vista option will boot the PC into Windows Vista. If, however, you select the earlier versions of Windows option, another menu will appear from which you can choose Windows XP or whatever earlier version - Windows 2000 or Windows 2003 server - you installed first.
Because of this new boot loader it is not as easy to remove Vista from a dual boot system scenario. Simply deleting the Vista partition will, of course, remove Windows Vista, but, unfortunately, it will not remove the Windows Vista boot loader. For this reason, if you simply delete the Windows Vista partition, on rebooting your machine you will not automatically boot into Windows XP (or an earlier version). Instead you will once again be presented with a menu from which you have to choose which operating system you wish to boot to.
Obviously, once you have removed the boot loader and rebooted the Vista operating system will still be on the partition you originally installed it on. To remove Vista completely you will need to Delete the partition that Windows Vista was installed upon.
To remove this menu, or more to the point, the boot loader, proceed as follows:
1/ Boot the PC to Windows Vista
2/ Ensure you are logged onto the Internet and then download the freeware boot loader utility VistaBootPro (www.vistabootpro.org)
3/ Once you have downloaded VistaBootPro, install it on your machine
4/ During Install VistaBootPro will install an icon on your desktop
5/ Locate the VistaBootPro icon and Right Click on it. Then, from the drop down menu, Click on the Run As Administrator option
6/ User Account Control (UAC) will pop up and ask for permission to run the program
7/ After you have given UAC permission - you must be the administrator or have administrator privileges - VistaBootPro will run.
8/ Once VistaBootPro opens, Click on the Bootloader tab
9/ In the Bootloader Maintenance section, Click on the Radio button next to the option marked 'Uninstall the Vista Bootloader (Used to restore Legacy OS) option' and then Click the Apply button
10/ Finally Reboot your PC
11/ On rebooting your machine you will boot directly into Windows XP (or an earlier operating system). No menu will appear.
12/ All that is left to do now is to delete the partition which originally contained Windows Vista. (Assuming you wish to remove the Vista partition from your hard drive).

Before I answer your question , let me tell you that you need to back up your data.Also, make sure that your system hardware supports Vista.

You also need to have genuine windows XP and windows Vista disks handy with you.

1. Partition your hard drive. In Windows XP, using the $50 PartitionMagic or (according to one of our readers) the free GParted Live CD, create a new "primary" partition to install Vista on. Make it at least 20 gigabytes in size.
2. Install Vista on the new partition. Pop in the Vista CD and point it to your newly-created partition as the installation destination. Installation will restart your machine at various points.
3. Choose your operating system on boot. Once Vista is installed on your newly-created partition, on boot up, you'll get a choice to start XP or Vista. The default is Vista. However, this can be changed using Vista's boot manager.
