Answered

New Camera, no picture on screen

Just got a new Cannon, Rebel XS, EOS. Followed set up directions, can not get the LCD screen to come on untill after the photo is taken. No preview on screen prior to photo. Tried everything, never had this kind of camera.

You can use live view, to preview the picture before its taken.... check the manual to turn on live view then press the center ok button to turn on live view
this is for cannon 1000d....hope this works

This is normal for this camera. Think about it. The CMOS chip can't see through the mirror. After the shot is taken the electronic shutter exposes the CMOS chip and makes an image just like exposing film on a film type camera. Once you get used to it you may like it better. In outdoor or bright light situations it's difficult to view the LCD screen to frame the shot anyway.

Hello, my cannon rebel xs says card write protected, i tried a new card, plus the button on the side of the card, plus removing battery, and putting battery back in problem is still there.iam lost

Rebel XS was working fine... yesterday, all of a sudden, the LCD screen went blank and it displays 'busy' when trying to take a picture. Recharging the battery and replacing the sd card didn't change...

The only problem with SD card download stuff is that the LCD screen has to be working. If that is part of the problem, how can the instructions be followed?

Unless you have the Digital Rebel XS or XSi, you are not going to be able to preview the shot on the LCD. This feature was not available on any digital SLR made before 2007. Compact cameras have always had this feature because they have a different optical architecture than SLRs. If you have the XS or XSi, check in the index of the user manual under "Live View shooting" for specific directions.
