I think the service technician may not have been completely honest with me after replacing my Magnetron. I kept the one he said he removed from my microwave. Is there a way to tell if it is really bad and is there a way to tell if it actually came out of my Dacor DCM24B Manufactured in June of 2006?
That is a difficult question to answer, the magnetron would need to be tested to find out if the item is functional or not, do you see a part number on the old magnetron or date when it was assembled. Did the technician replace any other parts besides the magnetron, any information would be helpful.
Great Charlotte, set the digital meter to ohms, put the test leads across the too points, if reading is 0.2ohms or less the magnetron is good, if meter reads infinity or open the magnetron is bad, keep in mind this is a rough test and not conclusive. In some cases it will develop a short and the meter's resolution can not detect it, please keep me posted.
Okay I found a site that makes testing with a meter conclusive, set meter to ohms and put test leads across the terminals, a reading of less than 1ohm is good, now set resistance to the highest setting and touch one probe to the terminal and the other to the metal housing, readings should be infinity or open, if a slight reading is indicated the magnetron is bad. Pllease disregard the other information.
Yes! you are right it does test good and the article states it is a conclusive test, the only sure way is to install it in a working microwave oven, also the part number 2M167B-M32 fits a variety of different brands of microwave ovens.

He told me he only replaced the magnetron. There are several numbers on it but nothing that appears to be a date. The numbers are as follows:
RV-MZA222
2M167B-M32
F64-01539
By the way, I have an ohm meter and a degree in electrical engineering so if you have some tests I could run, that would be great.
I found that same article and tried it earlier. I get a reading of .9 ohms across the terminals and an open loop between the terminals and the housing. This sounds like it is good. Is that conclusive or are there other ways of testing it?
