How to tell if ballast is bad on samsung dlp tv

Replaced bulb about about 3 months ago with an original bulb and now tv went back out and front lights indicate a bulb problem. I have taken out the bulb and didn't see any broken glass. Does anyone know how to physically tell if the bulb is bad or if it may be the ballast?

It is a common practice that the ballast to repalce along with new bulb. There is no way to check the internal winding short of ballast. Repalce both at the same time. If ballast has any damage, it will surely ruin the bulb too.

you need to go into the service menu and adjjust the option bytes. When you upgraged you changed them. The other solution would be to replace the main pcb

SOURCE: TV turns off by itself

Check the interlock switch on the rear lamp cover. Sounds like the cover might not be seating completely, allowing this safety switch to shut the TV off. When you remove the cover, it's just to the left of the big black plastic ventilation guide for the lamp, and it's a little tiny blue lever that moves up and down. Make sure the wires going to this switch are OK (not pulled out or 'hanging by a thread').

SOURCE: LE40R74BD VOLUME OK BUT BLANK SCREEN

sounds like the backlight is out, can you see a picture when shining a flashlight on the screen. if yes you have either a bad inverter power supply or bad screen (panel).
both are serious , also could be just a few bad capacitors on the power supply, if you want you can do a visual of the power board caps will appear swolled on top and are easy to solder in cost about $1 EACH

The only thing that will cause the lamp to fail that fast is the ballast. The ballast is part number BP47-0037A and I am including a link so you can purchase the ballast. Please take a few moments to rate my answer. Thank you..

Not the light engine. But it could be the power supply. I've seen a few than pass "dirt" power to the ballast and damage it. Have a peek at the ballast, there's a big 47uf, 450v capacitor on it. If it is swollen, it's a dead give away. You need both. I hope this was helpful.

I have an 82" Mitsubishi DLP tv. I have replaced the lamps 3 times and just replaced the ballast. I am still getting 6 red blinks and 1 yellow

I hate being the bearer of bad news, had the same problem, and I found out that the problem with DLP is that after so long, nothing that you do will fix it. A TV repairman offered me $100 for my set and I took it, that was 2 years ago and it still goes through bulbs and ballast several times a year. Now when i see him he always says I never should have taken that TV. It never plays long enough to sell it.
On a liter note: 4k si approaching $1000 now, that's the way to go.

Hi,Osram lamps average around 3000-4000 hrs.Normally 1 -1 1/2 yr.I do think the lamp went out.The ballast is a possibility, when it's going bad it will make clicking noises or attempts to light the bulb.I recommend to get the Original Philips lamp for they average 6000-8000 hrs 3-4 yrs.

My Samsung DLP model HL-P6163W keeps turning on and off and now lights are flashing. We replaced the color wheel last year and about two years ago the lamp.

could still be the lamp but it could also be the Ballast for the lamp has failed. I've replaced a lot of Ballasts on DLP machines.

50? Samsung DLP TV Model #HLR-5067W

Did you use an original replacement lamp or an aftermarket replacement? From the price you give, it sounds like an aftermarket lamp, which are notoriously buggy and the problem may be with the lamp. If not, the lamp driver is your next likely culprit. It is also called a lamp power supply or lamp ballast.
