I have a 5-month-old Maytag MMV4205BAS over range microwave. It's been working fine until I tried to reheat some food this morning - sounds like it's working (no humming - glas turning, etc.) but, when you take the food out? It's ice cold. Needless to say, I'm not very happy...Still under warranty and a tech is coming next week but, what would cause this?? My cheapo countertop unit has lasted me over 10 years.....this one - 5-months....Thanks in advance for any replies!
If the food in the cooking compartment is not heating at all, then you may have one of several components related to microwave energy generation that have failed or became disconnected internally.
Magnetron Tube, HV Capacitor, Filament Transformer or any number of sensors that disable power to the system. The control board could also cause the system to noty function correctly.. You wanted general inputs.. there ya go.. LOL
Not sure I told you anything you didn't already know but you should ask the tech what he did after he gets it going...
Regards,
Rick

....I put food in the box, I push button, food cooks, family's happy....that's the extent of my knowledge regarding microwaves....So, thanks for the reply!
Only other things I read here were in regards to the door - IE. maybe it's not latching correctly and that's why the unit isn't heating. Who knew these things were so involved - actually, I think I'm afraid to have it in my kitchen after reading about all the parts - better don a lead radiation shield before I ever cook again :)
Thanks again - I'll stop back next week with the verdict...
Well, the tech. came and it's the Magnetron Tube. He's ordering the part and coming back to fix in about two weeks. Guess that's the shelf life on new over-head microwaves these days - barely 5 months. Thanks for your reply!
