My dv1108ap laptop is getting very hot and goes blue screen very often now. I think the fan doesnt turn high speed anymore. Before I get the replacement fan how can i confirm if it is the fan or the controller-temperature sensor that is faulty?

Hi,
It sounds more like bad display drivers.
Boot into safe mode and uninstall the display drivers, you can do this by right clicking on My Computer and select manage from the list, then select device manager and uninstall the display drivers.
Restart the PC and boot up in normal mode, go here to HP support and download the correct display driver and install it, it should be either Intel or ATI Radeon.

Good luck.

Try to clean your fan with anti rust oil, maybe due to old age the mechanism inside your fan is already clogged.

Thanks for the response. Well, i am addressing the fan problem as it is very noticeable that the laptop is very hot. The blue screen is with many written text which says something like it has to go to shutdown to prevent the unit from something so may be related to the overheating. Well, thanks for the advise on the fan cleaning. Actually, I did that just weeks ago as i did think along the same line as a clogged vent. I might have removed the heat sink along with some adhesives to the chips surface but i remembered that there were non. I have now actually removed the assembly and plastered some heat paste over them (x2). The fact is that the fan is still running very slow. My only consolation is that the Speedfan apps says that the temp is around 60~70 deg C and maintaining. Still thinking of replacing the fan but will it help?
