Is there any thread jammed anywhere?
have you tried turning the machine off & on again?
the machine probably needs to be serviced to see why it's not
working

SOURCE: balance wheel is totally jammed

machine was working fine when suddenly it just jammed up. Everything seems to be fine, but the balance wheel is completely jammed rigid. I've looked at the shuttle and there are no thread jams at all. The needle moves fine from side to side with different stitch selections, but wont go up and down with the wheel.
I have tried looking in the machine, but I can't find any thread jammed.

Hi,

According to your problem, if you have change/replace the niddle properly then you can try to change the niddle position to solve your problem. Check the niddle threading and reset it. Check also the thread sensor. Reset the machine and unplug it after resetting for 2 min. Then plug it and turn it on again. If it doesn't solve your problem then you may need to reload the software.

Cannot turn hand wheel or sew.

Have you checked the bobbin compartment to make sure there isn't a thread-jam there? It can get so tightly snarled that even the handwheel won't turn.

Hand wheel rotates but stop motion screw doesn't rotate and it is not moving the needle up or down

Robin. Take off the hand wheel. Look for the funny looking washer with ears. The center fingers should be angled outward when you fit it into place (counter intuitive, I know) Fit everything back together and try it again.

The foot pedal wont move the needle

Ok, I am assuming that you have an old style machine where the hand hand wheel has the larger balance wheel on the outside and inner knob to release the drive to the needle and feed dogs. If that has been removed and not put back together properly it won't work.

There is a special locking washer inside those that have "fingers" pointing to the inside of the circle. They must be fit into the shaft correctly before the knob is returned into place and the little screw is tightened down.

This guy is a bit of a windbag but watch his video... you'll at least see the part I'm talking about. He shows the part at about 9:50 in the video.

Motor is fine, but won't sew

since the machine has been setting for 20 years, it needs to be serviced
the old grease & oil have probably turned the gunk. the servicing can also tell if any parts are damaged
