To ping your router you first need to open a commant prompt, to do so, click start, then all programs, then accessories, then command prompt.

in the black window write first: IPCONFIG and hit enter to get your ip address and the routers ip address.

your routers ip adress will be listed as DEFAULT GATEWAY.

then write PING 12.12.12.12 and hit enter.
REPLACE THE 12.12.12.12 WITH THE NUMBERS YOU GOT FROM IPCONFIG / DEFAULT GATEWAY.

Routers have the ability to turn off return ping.

This is great for security because it is harder to tell if a device is at a certain address simply by pinging it.

Simply log into your router and go into the advanced settings. There should be an option to enable pinging if you do want it to be enabled.

My router is on but it seems so slow. i keep getting randomly disconnected, the connection is terrible and even when i turn it off for 30 seconds and on again it stills acts up, any ideas?

ping your router with a packet length strength. To do the ping test, go to Start-Run and type CMD and hit enter. Then, in the Command Prompt Window type in the following

ping 192.168.0.1 -l 30000 9

I suppose the 192.168.0.1 will be the default gateway of your router. To check which is the default gateway of your router you can double click the connection icon on your PC, and click the Support tab. You'll see the degault gateway IP third on the list.

Now, if it pings back all three times with times below 100ms then ok. If it doesnt then reduce the ping length to 20000, if again you have losses then reduce it again to 10000. If the ping loses packets and response is slow you'll probably need a new power cord.
If the pinging is ok at 30k then you'll probably need to change the LAN cable that leads from your internet connection onto the wifi router.
To verify this, run this command

ping google.com -l 10000 and see if you have any losses. If you do have losses, then do a ping like this

ping google.com -l 32000 if you again have losses in the ping then you'll need to change your LAN cable because the 32kb packet is almost a standard size of packets and it should have no problems to get through the router, unless the LAN cable is bad.

Hope this helps. Please vote a Thumbs Up if you found this useful and informative.

My cisco 877 dsl router sometime disconected from internet itself and after 5 or 6 hours its return back what can be the problem

1. check the status to the router page by logging into the router to see if the router lost connectivity.
2. Pinging an outside address will tell you if you have lost connectivity with the ISP or not.
Ping test = Ping www.yahoo.com
this is within the router

I have a D-link wireless router model dir-615. I jhave two pc's comming up on it, the first one up gets ip address 192.168.0.100 the second 192.168.0.101. Both have 32 bit subnet mask. The first one can...

If you have any Firewall installed in the PC which has the IP address of 192.168.0.101 disable it,Because Firewall will block the 32 bit DATA ping within the internal Network commonly with the router because Router also has an inbuild Firewall in it.

I have the Samsung BD 3600 and the Belkin N router and fail the gateway ping. Help

if you are trying to ping the router from the outside internet, the ping function is probably shut off. If you are trying to ping the router from a local pc either the pc is not connected to the router network or the router network is not the same as the pc network (example: router gateway ip is 192.168.55.1 and your pc is looking for 192.168.1.1. Check the router gateway id. If you can get to the router, you are probably ok.

Send more info if you can't resolve the issue.

WRT54G Linksys Wireless Router

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Pinging most LinkSys WRT54G would require to open a command prompt in the PC, type "ping 192.168.1.1" less the quotes and await reply from the router.

Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.

Siements 5890 router

When you say HQ is that outside on the wan port trying to ping the Lan port?
Sometimes the router itself will respond to a ping but will not pass ping requests thru as the internal firewall can never be fully shutoff unless you are running your cisco switch as a DMZ
also are you connecting your other pc's to the cisco or to the 5890.
Instead of shutting off the firewall completely try enabling bridge mode and give your cisco the outside IP addy.
