Denon cd player skipping on some track/cds

you could try this.
Clean the CD if it skips or the player can't read it. Use a clean lint-free cotton cloth and make sure the CD is not scratched. Use a lens-cleaning CD in the player. If you can access the lens without opening the case, clean it with a cotton swab and lens cleaner.
Why does a CD player skip? They don't scratch as easily as vinyl LPs, but I've damaged half a dozen CDs over the years. If a CD is skipping, first give it good clean using a CD wipe or mild soap and water. Dry carefully with a lint-free cloth in a straight line from the centre to the edge. Rubbing in circles can cause more damage.

Look inside at the laser carriage. You should see a grooved track. Check that none of the teeth are damaged. They should be in perfect condition. If they are not the lens unit will jump during playback. It could also be caused by too much grease or dirt, or too little grease. Clean the track if you can see too much grease or dirt. If it looks dry, you can apply Silicone Grease, which you can get on-line or in electrical parts shops, such as Maplin if you are in the UK.

Hopefully it's just a bit of dust on the lens. Or something inside the unit that is obstructing the mechanism, such as dirt.

It's having trouble reading the CDs. The thing that reads it could be dirty. But try a different cd. The CD player is getting old and if there is even a small scratch it will be hard to read it. A new CD player would be the way to go

It sounds like you have the cd on random or shuffle. Look to see if you have a button marked rdm or shuf or some variation of that. If so, try pressing that button to see if random/shuffle turns off.

The lazer is going on it. End not reading the info on the disc properly,

replace the spindle motor. the motor's speed varies while playing cds and a worn motor will not keep to the correct speed for playback of certain tracks on various points of the disc and will cause skipping and even stop altogether.

use a common cd/dvd optic cleaner .... they are cheap .. what is going on is your cd player cant find a track so it shuts off ..

It is clear symptoms of bad optical laser or dirty optical lens.
Please put lens cleaning CD in player, play that CD to clean dust on optical lens surface. If that helps, fine or replace optical laser block in player.
I can provide you optical lens part number, please confirm is it Sony CDP-CX153 cd player or any other model.

I have a Denon DCM-460 purchased from Goodwill a couple days ago and had problem with one CD-R skipping and stuttering toward the end.

Cleaned the CD which helped a little but still started skipping and stuttering.

Noticed a scratch toward the outer end which I suspect is where the problems occurred.

Anyway, last night I cleaned laser, rails, lubed spindles and moving parts. I used 99.9% alcohol to clean. I used a light teflon oil (Tri-Flow) to lube spindles and rails. And white electronic grease where you see remnants of white grease.

Today, I now played through the problem CD-R with no problems.

Assuming placement is level and stable, certainly worth a try and the effort.
