Question about Sony FD Trinitron KD-34XBR960 34" TV

1 Answer

I have a Sony KD-34XBR960 and the standby light blinks twice and makes a click noise and a bang sounds off in the back of the TV and then it repeats its self , the TV does not turn on .

TV won't turn on , Standby light blinks twice and then there is a click noise and after that a loud bang then the process starts all over again , this is constant non stop . I don't try to turn on the TV cause the bang noise might cause the TV not to work ever again !

Did it bang just once, or every time? If just once, then a capacitor or fuse (unlikely) blew. If it bangs every time, hmmm.....

Yes , there is a loud bang noise after the light blinks twice then a click noise then the loud bang . this is non stop I have to unplug the TV from the wall outlet in order for it to stop , also if I plug the TV back in to the wall outlet the process starts all over again and I don't even have to turn the TV on !

I did have a TV repair man come to my house and he checked the TV with meters and he said it was the Q-Block , does this make sense to you ?

  1. Two blinks - B+ over current protection (OCP), unit goes to the standby mode then displays the 2 blink fault. Could be a short in the power supply of any of the circuits.

Engineer seeks help with no-picture, no-sound, normal standby blinking

Could just be a power issue. I have not done much with CRT televisions except smash them to bits. I would open it up and try and look for anything obvious. Since it is taking so long to come on, I am wandering if there is a cap that is failing. It will be hard to know if there is no visual evidence of failure, and the only true way to measure is with an ESR meter.

Kd-34xbr960 doesnt come on

Count the number of blinks of standby light at one time after switch ON. Count it once more and make sure that the out is correct. These blinks are fault indications. Check this link to get more details about the blinking codes to Sony Trinitron TVs. Details are there. You can locate the faulty section by these blinkings. If you are not familiar with electronics, do not attempt to repair. Whether you suffer fatal electrical shock! Instead, contact the nearest service center.

phillips has the same problem but if your tv actually turns on it could be a short or just a fuse sonys a better tv than phillips should be an easy fix call a repir guy going price for that problem is 75.00 dont pay any more than that. the economy is bad everyone needs the work be smart. make sure if you say yes to the work that the repair guy will waive the consultaion cost of usually 35 to 75 dollars, if you chose to have the work done.

I have a Sony XBR400. The 40

The standby light shouldbe blinking is a pattern of a count followed by a pause then the count again repeatedly. If you can post that count here, we can use that to indicate the circiut in which the problem exists. That will determine the probable cost to repair.

Thanks

We have a SONY kd-34XBR960 I turned it off and

Turning your tv off did not cause this issue, so don't blame yourself for that. A 6 or 7 blink shutdown is because one of the two switch mode power supply control ic's have failed. the part number on them is mcz3001. They are located on the "D" baord, i don't recommend replacing this yourself because even with a tv unplugged from the wall high voltages still exist in the set.

A repairman may preform one of the two following things, he may change the whole D board or he may replace the individual components. The repair will cost around $200 if they replace the components, and if they replace the board it will cost more.

SONY TV PICTURE TURN GREEN WITHOUT RETRACE

Picture goes to high green with retrace lines that shows picture tube is defective and requires replacement.
Usually in above symptom, TV goes to standby mode and standby light blinks when green raster problem occurred.
New TV is better option because picture tube of KV-34XBR960 would not be available any more.
Thanks.

Timer/Standby light blinks but no picture or sound when power button is pressed.

I'm having the same problem. My stand-by light blinks 3 times though. The tv clicks as if it is going to turn on, but it never does. Is there a simple solution to this problem?
