Phone stuck in Configuring IP

I have a two cisco CME's and 7940 phones. The router configs are the same except for the IP's of course and one of the routers will not let the phones register. I am using DHCP and that is configured the same on both routers. The vlan on both switches is also configured the same. One set works but the other will not register the phones, they get stuck in Configuring IP. Each phone sees the vlan but does not go any further. The flash on both routers is the same and configure cnf file is in both of the router configs. I am at a loss for why one is working and the other is not. If you have any advice please feel free to help.

Did you check the TFTP settings on the IP phone? You may need to disable DHCP on the phone and assign the TFTP manualy or make sure the correct TFTP server is assigned.

My cisco ip phone 7905 series is rebooting continuously

Hi,

the reason for this would be that it is not getting it's config from the CallManager (or CME router).

The steps in a phone booting up something like this:
1) DHCP for IP Address, and Option 150 for TFTP Server
2) TFTP to address provided by DHCP Option 150
3) Get config file, a(an upgrade of firmware may occur at this point)
4) Connect to Call Manager/CME as specified in config file

First check DHCP server to see if it is allocating an address to the MAC address of the phone
Second confirm if DHCP is providing Option 150 and that is the IP Address of the TFTP Server (typically one of your Call Managers)
Third check that the phone is correctly configured on CCM/CME. A common error at this stage is that the phone is configured with the wrong model type.

Call back if you get to that stage and are still having problems.

Cheers, Simmo99.

My red light wont go out on cisco 7940 phone, even when i have no messages

Hi,

Has this just stopped working, or has it never been working?

On the call manager / CME the MWI (Message Waiting Indicator) needs to be configured. This could be undertaken either via the GUI or from the CLI

For instance ...

ephone-dn 30
number 8000...
mwi on
!
!
ephone-dn 31
number 8001...
mwi off

and also mapped to each phone to enable MWI status

ephone-dn 1 dual-line
number 111
label Chris
name fred
call-forward busy 800
call-forward noan 800 timeout 10
huntstop channel
mwi-type visual

Complete config details are at:http://www.ciscosystems.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucme/command/reference/cme_m1ht.html#wp1018439

Cisco IP Phone 7940 and 3com nbx as 3rd party SIP phones

Here are the instructions for configuring these units for 3cx

http://www.3cx.com/sip-phones/cisco-7940.html

http://www.3cx.com/sip-phones/polycom-soundpoint.html

Since the 3cx softphone worked well, I don't see why you couldn't configure each as for 3cx and make them work as well.

My client has Cisco 7940 IP phones and wants assistance with feature programming

This phone can be access through a menu/ setting buttons.

Useful link on how to navigate through the phone:

I think the main problem is to determine the intergrated router or Call manager configuration
You can also connect on switch and type:show cpd neighbor This will show the physical port connections
