It is difficult to diagnose without knowing the machine brand and model. If it is an older mechanical (not computerized) model, it may need cleaning and oiling. Consult your owner's manual and follow the instructions in the Maintenance section.

However, the foot pedal may be defective and if cleaning/oiling doesn't resolve the issue, you should take it in for service.

I didn't know that sewing machines had heaters. Can you please post your question in the correct section with more information.

Do you have the manual? p.17 shows what should show on the screen.
You may want to consider a maintenance if you don't know what the machine's condition is.
