Is this an external 1TB Hard Drive? Maybe it's to big for your computer. If it's an external drive try it on another computer and see if it works. There is also the possibility that the external 1TB drive is bad.

If it's not an external hard drive then try the steps below.

Click Start/My Computer and see if your hard drive is listed as a device. If not, turn the computer off, remove the battery, remove the cover that houses the hard drive on the bottom of the laptop then remove the hard drive from the bay. Wait 30 seconds and put the hard drive back into the bay and reboot. Now see if the hard drive is shown under My Computer. If not, the drive might be bad.

Sir, Im having P4BP-MX Motherboard 2GB DDR 40 GB HDD, CAN I GO FOR 1TB HDD for my Motherboard. I bought 1TB its not identifying Is my P4BP-MX Motherboard support 1TB or Not ?

There's two things wrong:

1. You can't simply install a hard drive and then use it. You have to format it and/or install an operating system on it.

2. Your motherboard is a very old model. While it is new enough to support LBA48 mode (which is necessary to fully use hard drives above 127 GB), it is possible that it has an old BIOS version that does not support it. You should check ASUS' website to download and install the latest BIOS update.

I can't get Vista Ultimate set up to recognize my WD 1TB HDD in a new build. Is this a software problem or problem with the HDD. I get the short beep at BIOS start up so I don't think its with the...

Few steps to check your harddisk status on the motherboard would resolve this issue. Checkin to the cmos setup and look for the detection of the HDD and the size it shows once you have done a formating.

Vista 64 bit shows issues at times while installing a new SATA 1TB HDD. Check if the 1TB HDD is installed on to SATA 0.

Use a WD Disk Manager and format the HDD initially and then try install Vista on to it. Else if this doesnt work on the system, Put the HD on to another working system and Format it with NTFS File system and try installing Vista.. You will be successful. Good Luck.
