Click Start/Control Panel andlook for the Mouse and open it to check the mouse properties. Make sureyou don't have the touchpad disabled.

Some models will allow you to toggle the touchpad on or off by clicking on thebutton that is located at the top of the touch pad in the middle.

Some models will allow you to toggle the touchpad by tapping twice in the upperleft hand corner of the touchpad.

Some models will require a keystroke to toggle the touchpad. Press andHold the ALT or FN function key located at the lower left portion of thekeyboard, then hit the key that toggles the touchpad. The correct key tohit will have the icon of a finger pointing at a square that represents thetouchpad.

Download and reinstall the touch pad drivers.Get online and got towww.google.com In the google search box type: "Dell Support"(without the quotes and put your manufacturer name before Support). Lookfor downloads and drivers. Enter your model number and operating system whenrequested. Download and install the Touchpad drivers.

Disable touchpad - usb mouse is installed and working

Either your driver for touch pad is missing or flex cable of your touch pad is disconnected. Check in Device Manager if your driver for touch pad is there, if that part is fine then you have to open your touch pad and reconnect the flex cable.

Compaq v3000 touch pad not working

You probably forgot to plug the flat cable from the touch pad to the motherboard. If you remove the keyboard you should be able to see if the touch pad flat ribbon is plugged into the motherboard.

Acer aspire 1642 frozen mouse

Connect an external USB mouse to get at least the cursor to work, then download the latest touch pad drivers from Acer's site

Check that you have not disabled the mouse pad (FN and F7?)

If that fails, you may need to dismantle the laptop and check the small ribbon cable that connects the touch pad to the motherboard has not come adrift.

After that it looks like physical failure of the trackpad / touch pad assembly

Touch pad stoped working, keydoard stoped too.

there is a wide wire under the surface of keyboard that connects keyboard (and touch pad) with whole laptop.
i think one of the small cables of that wire is cut.
so take the laptop to a warranty center and explain the problem.

I've just replaced the hard drive of my laptop compac nx9010. There was an optical tap on the old drive which I took it off and stuck on the new but my touch pad mouse is not working. Can you please advice...

Go to control panel, and to Device manager under system, make sure you install the driver for touch pad, if not do that( download it from the website from the manfacture of your laptop) , if you did make sure that the connecter cable is pluged for the touch pad, you have to open your laptop, and connect small cable to the touch panel.

Thanks for using Fixya

Lenovo n500 laptop ... mouse pad not working

The mouse pad maybe faulty or the ribbon cable from the mouse pad to the motherboard may not be properly connected. Reseat this cable.
You can connect an USB optical mouse to the laptop. I prefer you use a USB mouse all the time over the mouse pad.

Touchpad

When the touch pad stops working it's one of three things. 1- A driver glitch, unistall the touch pad drivers from the device manager, then reboot. The machine will find the touch pad and reinstall the drivers automatically. 2- The touch pad connector has worked loose. Take the palm rest with the touch pad off, disconnect the cable, clean the connectors, and reseat the cable firmly. 3- the touch pad has failed and will need to be replaced. The driver glitch is the most common, I believe that it should take care of the problem. Let me know.
