I have Canon power shot S2 IS digital camera.I bought it around 2 years back. Now my camera is showing the sign of "change the batteries" even though the batteries are fully charged and the lens does not come out..When I tried the same batteries on other digicamera they are working fine. Very few times the camera starts working but after taking 2 or 3 pics the low battery sign appears on the screen.I use AA size NiMH Sony batteries. Can you let me know the solution to my issue.

I have a Canon Power shot (brand new SX150 IS digital) I've had it for 3 months. I'm ready to send it back!!! I can take about 10 pictures before it dies. It doesn't matter what kind of battery I use. I've tried them all. What is wrong with it.

I suggest replacing a fresh battery will most likely solve your prob, overtime rechargeable battery can drain easily, try changing with a new battery and see if it does work well, there might be insufficient current, thats why it tends to drop of voltage easily upon using,
there is a specified lifetime for rechargeable battery, depends on your usage and charging method, theymaybe fully charged but sometimes wont give you enough power to drive
cheers

I have a Canon PowerShot S2IS that gives me a black screen and a "change batteries" message even with new batteries. Is there a way to re-set or re-boot the camera?

Try cleaning the battery compartment contacts with a cotton swab "dampened" in rubbing alcohol. Also clean the battery contacts and the charging station the same way. Thanks, Dana

What does change the batteries message indicate when new batteries are installed? Canon S2 IS will not turn on in camera mode but reads "change the batteries" even with new batteries.

Are you still using alkaline batteries? If so, alkaline batteries just don't have the power for more than a few pictures in a digital camera. Some may also have reached their shelf life at the store, and though right out of the package may even have problems just powering startup of the camera. Digital cameras that use AA's for the most part should only be used with rechargeable NiMH batteries. If you read the camera's instruction manual concerning batteries, you may see the same recommendation.

Keep in mind rechargeable NiMH batteries will save you money in the long run over alkalines, AND they'll last for at least 100 pictures per charge (and probably many many more). You'll be very pleased with their performance, and may be angry with yourself for not buying them sooner. When at the store, look on the package for a power rating of at least 2500 mah.

Canon power shot S2 IS 5 mega pix camera it just shows a black sc

Your camera has the know issue of Stuck shutter, whichhappens after some time (weeks or months) thata camera is notused.

Unfortunately the repair of it requires a complete disassembly of the camera, including the lens, fix it, and then put back together everything.

Definitely requires th skills, tools and experience to do it, so it's recommended that a professional camera repair center is performing this type of repair.

If you look for a reliable and low cost repair service for it, you can look in ebay for such repair services.

Example, look for seller ID Great_items_2004 or with the keywords "Shutter black S2".

Batteries go dead

There appears to be an issue with the S2 IS after two years.  See the reviews on Canon's website: http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&tabact=DownloadDetailTabAct&fcategoryid=322&modelid=11368#ModelDetailAct

If yours is two years old then you are probably out-of-luck.  It would probably cost more to repair than to simply replace.  As a work-around, try removing the batteries after use.

My Canon power shot S2 IS does not detect the batteries

There is a battery charge level sensor in the DC/DC internal converter board.

It seems that just started to fail such board.

You can try with other brand or type of AA batteries.

If still you have the same problem, you will need to have replaced the DC/DC converter board on your camera. This means a Camera repair shop service on it.

Even after putting new batteries it gives message"change the batteries"

Are you still using alkaline batteries? If so, alkaline batteries just don't have the power for more than a few pics in a digital camera. Some may have reached their shelf life, and though brand new, may even have problems just powering startup of the camera. Digital cameras for the most part should only be used with rechargeable NiMH batteries. Retailers sell these for around $7 for a package of four (about $15-19 for the batteries with charger). Keep in mind they'll save you big bucks in the long run over alkalines, AND they'll last for at least 100 pictures per charge (and probably many many more). You'll be very pleased with their performance, and may slap yourself for not buying them sooner. When at the store, look on the package for a power rating of at least 2500 mah.
