I am trying to do a system restore and it will not work. XP home on a Dell Pc
I have tried Help system restore - picked a restore date and on the confirmaiton page I click the next button but nothing happens.
then I tried ctr f11 and nothing!
I do not have any disks to restore from!
Help! now what
Was the date you picked highlighted or was it darkened? also was the system restore turned off ? or was old restore points deleted except most recent restore points? also old restore points can and will be deleted after so long
you would need to make sure of those things first , then let me know what you have going on so I can better tell you what is happening , unless you figure it out

It is my understanding that Xp home does not come with the restore function. I believe that Dell may have restore disks available from their web site or it may be on a different part of your hard drive. Go to their web site and check it out.
Try doing System Restore in Safe Mode.
1. Reboot system
2. Press F8 repeatedly on the Dell screen
3. Select Safe Mode [enter]
4. Select the OS [enter]
5. Wait till all "multidisks" files complete
6. Login with your name
7. Hit "NO"
8. Choose a Restore Point.
To do PC Restore:
Hold on CTRL and keep on pressing F11 on the page next to the Dell Logo
- it's a black page with a blue bar at the top that says "www.dell.com"
- this page disappears in less than one second. once you miss it, the system will show the
Windows logo.
For enabling system restore do this
Start the Group Policy Editor (gpedit.msc)
Navigate to Computer Configuration/Administrative Templates/System/System Restore
Set Turn off System Restore and Turn off Configuration to Disable
Right click on My Computer and Select Manage
Navigate to Services and Applications/Services
Navigate to System Restore Service and double click
On the General tab set [Startup Type] to Automatic using the drop down list
Click the Start button to start the service
Close the Computer Management console
Return to System Restore in Group Policy Editor and configure both to Not Configured
Close Group Policy Editor and reboot the system.

There are two "strands" of this virus one is curable with a scan from Malwarebytes Anti-malware the other has yet to be cured I've been at it for 48 hours now. And the strand I have still has not given way at all.
I wasnt aware of the Dell PC system restore when I formatted my laptop. Is there a way to retrieve this function so I can restore my original factory settings?
