This will need to be looked at and tested , but it could be the high voltage capacitor , high voltage diode or the magnetron that will need replacing

GE Spacemaker arcing?

It is possible, but you heard a similar bang earlier, from the description the magnetron is arcing on a occassion because it is failing, or there is bare metal exposed on the interior. I would recommend getting it checked out to make sure there is no safety hazard and have it resolved.

Frigidaire PLMB209DCB 1200W Microwave. Mfg 2005. Started sparking and loud popping. Scorched cardboard covering. Worth looking at to repair?

No, Your better off buying a new one. Sounds like the Magnetron is acting up and that is the most important and dangerous piece of hardware in the Microwave.

i would say replace the microwave. the arcing you saw came from the magnetron tube and this can be a costly repair. not to mention the damage to the inside of the microwave

My frigidaire GLMV169 manufactured in 2005 and purchased in 2006 stopped working. There is no power. The clock, buttons - everything. Tried changing the outlet and flipping fuse switch and still...

Hello there:
If your microwave oven doesn't seem to work at all, check these: Fuses Door switch Fuses Usually, when your microwave oven doesn't work it all, the internal fuse (thermal fuse) is blown. This fuse protects both you and the oven. When it blows, you need to have a qualified appliance repair technician replace it. Door switch If the fuse isn't the problem, check the door hooks and the door-release button. When these are broken, the door switch doesn't activate, so the oven can't work.

Microwave runs but doesn't heat

Most likely shorted the transformer for the magnatron,Its expensive to repair and you should consider just replacing the micro.

Not heating anything, very loud

Sounds like the magnetron has failed. This is the component that produces the microwave that heats the food. The cost of the magnetron is about 95% of the cost of a microwave . Most people don't, for this reason, replace the magnetron, they replace the whole oven which is probably what you will end up doing. There is a possibility that the circuit that provides power to the magnetron is faulty and you need to take it apart, find the proper electrical leads and test them with a volt meter. To do this you have to remove it from its mounting and take it apart. It is a fairly lengthy process however.

Just bought a Frigidaire GLMV169 Gold Series Over-the-Stove Microwave. Makes a strange sound like glass rubbing on glass (varible soft to loud). I tried turning the turntable off, but it was still there.

The first thing I would suggest is a hard reset. Unplug the unit for a minute or so. Then plug it back in, set the clock and try again.

Let us know if the hard reset does not fix it.
