If you are using a desktop, you require a an addon card called IEEE 1394 firewire card, which you have to install it on your motherboard's PCI slot, then using the firewire cable which you get along with the card should be connected to the card and DV port of the camera, then using the MOVIE MAKER software of windows XP, you can download the video.

I can't figure out how to download video from my JVC GR-D90U Camcorder to my computer through it's usb cable. It is a mini DV camcorder that uses mini video tapes.

From the JVC manual "This camcorder can transfer still images to a PC via USB". There is no mention of video transfer via USB so it seems it is not supported.

I am trying to find that what type of cable I

depending on what connection you have on your computer. You can use usb to usb or dv to dv. If you use usb to usb it's pretty straightforward but if you go dv to dv just make sure which dv connector you have on your computer 4 or 6 pin. If you don't have a manual for your jvc , go to their website and download one. All of the info will be in there, usually towards the back of the manual. My suggestion would be if you have a dv connector on your pc you should use that setup because it is faster than usb. But if you don't have a dv connector, usb to usb is fine. Have fun.

Help

The memory card is strictly for still photos. The tape is strictly for video. Transferring video tot he PC requires a firewire card on your PC (for direct cable connection).

Camcorder video transfer formats

The IEEE 1374 is the way to go. It is fast, and it is digital. Therefore, the video and audio will not be degraded in the transfer. The others are analog interfaces.

Can't transfer the pics from a JVC-DRX707

If this is an USB connection, I'd try another USB plug that you know works. Remember that MOTHERBOARD DRIVERS are often an issue. Some will accept a Windows Update driver and this happens.
