The motor is functioning. The can rotates but the cutting action is spotty. If I am able to easily replacea the cutting blade or make an adjustment - thats doable. The worst case is pallatable - the can opener can be purchased new for $32 bucks! Fix or buy is the question. The motor is functioning. The can rotates but the cutting action is spotty. Mine was doing the same thing. I took the front cover off(four screws from the back) and unscrewed the wheel that drives the can. There were two spacer washers under the wheel. I removed the thin one and reassembled the unit. It now cuts the lid off just like new. I saved the thin washer so I could swap washers at a later date if it fails again.Mine was doing the same thing. I have had a problem several times with my 76606. It seems that cleaning the food and pieces of metal out and reaassembling fixes it each time. the bottom is the one that is the most critical to clean. Be careful to note the positions of the parts as you take it apart to avoid confusion during reassembly.I have had a problem several times with my 76606. I tried all of the above nothing worked so i tightened the tension spring and now it cuts. It doesn't cut as smoothly as it used to,but it now opens them in one pass. To tighten it take out the cutting mechanism and flip it over you will see a regular nut on top of a thumb nut, twist the thumb nut to tighten, but only ever so slightly.Do it in Small increments as in taking it from 12 to 1 till you find what works.I tried all of the above nothing worked so i tightened the tension spring and now it cuts.
