Hold your finger on the top left corner of the screen while turning it on. Release the power button when you see the Garmin logo pop up but keep your finger on the top left corner until the white calibration screen shows.

SOURCE: I have a Garmin Nuvi
I had the same issue on my 1450 except it just would not power on anymore, even with a full charge. A soft reset will preserve your Home, Favorites, POis, etc. Leave the battery in the unit. Hold down on the lower right of the screen while holding down on the power button. After 20-30 seconds, you should see the Garmin splash screen. Have your PC/laptop ready with USB cable. Get the latest Map update downloaded and installed or just start using the unit again.
SOURCE: My new Garmin Nuvi 1450 lost satellite signal more
I have the same exact problem. Satellite detection outside of vehicle before starting out was full strength, as soon as you get into vehicle strength drops off to practically nothing. Now start driving and it continually loses satellite reception even on the open road with no hills and a clear day. It was mounted as far into the front windshield as I could get it and still crappy reception. Very disappointing as a cheaper Tom Tom my sister has works flawlessly. Also my daughters HTC desire Z cell phone GPS works flawlessly even from the back seats in the van. Maybe 1450LMT is just junk, and I should look for a refund.
SOURCE: garmin nuvi 1450 will not
You should be able to resolve the issue by resetting your unit. The 1450 is reset by pressing and holding the Power button for about 20 seconds. Your unit should then start up like it normally would.
If the reset does not resolve the issue then you may either have a dead battery or an electronic issue. You can check if the issue is the battery by plugging your unit into your computer using the USB cable that was supplied with your unit. The Garmin is programmed to automatically draw power and recharge it's battery when it is plugged into a unit with the USB cord. You can try the reset option again while you are attached to the computer. If you are still unable to get the unit to come on then you will have to take the unit into a Garmin authorized repair center. They will be able to test your battery and let you know if it needs to be replaced. Then can also tell you if the issue is internal to the unit, and what it will cost you to repair the unit.
