"error loading operating system" message on dell inspiron 1420 laptop

I have tried tapping f2, f12, f8 while turning laptop on, but not triggering anything. Still goes to black screen with "error loading operating system" message after quickly showing the dell logo screen. Can't get past that to try any solutions mentioned in various forms. How do I get past that screen?

Only way to bypass this is use a recovery disk to boot from and then perhaps the issue will manifest itself

otherwise, it's the dreaded re format step

SOURCE: Dell Inspiron 1501 black screen

i think your system's files is corrupted due to improper shut down or sudden lost of system power.so better do fresh installation of operating system or do recovery by booting up windows xp from cd rom.

SOURCE: Screen goes black after windows XP logo, then no response.

I would suggest checking your hard drive to see whether or not it has a bad sector on it.

SOURCE: My Dell Inspiron 1520 will not load

Hello, Beth.

The most common reason is memory. Try reseating (remove and reinsert) the memory, first.

Power off the computer and disconnect all cables. Flip the laptop to the back. Remove the battery. The memory cover has 8 screws. Remove the memory modules at a 25 degree angle and reinsert them by pushing them down firmly by the ends.

If reseating the memory doesn't solve your problem, one module may be bad. So, remove and test each module one at a time.

Hope this helps.

My dell laptop doesn't boot; I get the message "Loading PBR for descriptor 2.....done". How can I fix this?

Hi

This error is a partition boot record that the system is trying to find but not finding it

you could try some of these things

as soon as you turn it on press F8 and try to choose last known configuration

or

F12 and see if it offers a hard disk check or diagnostic test it sometimes offer to test and fix the disk

or safe mode and do a system restore back to when it was ok

if you have a operating system original disk you could restart pressing the F12 tab inserting the disk into the dvd drive booting up with the disk and follow through until it offers repair

or if all else fails try te F11 tab on startup and this with any luck will offer you a back to factory settings if you want it

good luck

please let us know if you get anywhere with it

Hello,,, I got a Dell Inspiron 910 Mini Laptop. As I boot it up there is a stop message and a driver comes up. And then NO OPERATING SYSTEM FOUND. What must I do? Help me Please...

would indicate that the operating system is not detected. try to restore or reinstall your OS, if this does not work, try to remove and reconnect the hard drive of the system which I believe is an SSD type. You can also try to run diagnostics by trying FN power button to turn it on or tap F12 when system is restarting and select Diagnostics from the One Time Boot Menu. It is possible that the SSD drive needs to be replaced

My dell inspiron 1525 has a black screen with a white cursor showing

First, I want to know if you sees the Dell logo after turning on the laptop? If yes then this is no boot issue.
1. Immediately run the PSA. Make sure laptop is off. Press and hold down the Fn key, while holding down Fn key press the power button at the same time just once. Once the Dell screen loaded you can now let go of the Fn key. Check if the PSA will run short test for the LCD, RAM and HDD. When full color displays on the screen just press Y. PSA will continue. Just take note of any error code will appear on the screen such as 0141, 0142 and 0146 these are HDD failure errors which means HDD needs replacement. If the test says no errors found then proceed to step 2;
2. Try restarting the laptop once you see dell logo then keep tapping F8. Select last known good configuration. Press enter key. Just wait and check if laptop will load Windows. If not then, restart laptop keep tapping F8 try to select safe mode check if it will load Windows. If not then prepare the Windows OS disc the one came with your laptop.
3. While laptop is on insert the Windows OS disc. Restart the computer. On the Dell screen keep tapping on F12 to show boot menu. In the boot menu select CD/DVD ROM Drive. Press enter then keep tapping on space bar until it will say Windows loading files, please wait.
4. In the User Interface it will show you some options to select. Once the Install screen comes up look on the lower part select Repair Your Computer. If will ask you to do Startup Repair, please do start up repair. If fails try the System Restore. If fails then step 5;
5. If you have important files in your HDD then back up your files first. After backing up of files you can now install the Windows OS. Here is the process in installing the Windows OS. Insert the Windows OS disc, restart the laptop, keep tapping F12 on Dell screen, on boot menu select CD/DVD ROM Drive.Install the Windows OS. Just complete the installation.After the installation install the laptop drivers.
