Vaio VGN-NR31S Nvidea 8400M Graphics Problem

Exhibits typical graphics card problem of lines across the screen etc. Flexing the case clears the problem. I think that the GPU bga is suffering from dry-joints. Anyone had any success with repairing this problem?

That 'flexing' the case puts tension on the ribbon cable that connects the motherboard with the screen. replacing that video component(up under keyboard top) will do the trick

cpu is far removed physically from this issue

SOURCE: Sony Vaio game lag only using fraction of graphics card

Not quiet sure what you mean by its only using a fraction of your graphics card?

If you go in to device manager it will tell you what graphics card you have.

What game is it you are trying to play?

If it is lagging then it suggest that your card isnt powerfull enough to cope with the game.

Have you tried dropping the display settings in the game to see if that helps?

As soon as i start it up I get coloured lines across the screen, then when i log on the icons are big n it wont let me change resolution!

I also have a Sony Vaio VGN-AR630E. There is a known problem with the NVIDA 8400M GT video card. Mine has died and Sony said this card will be fixed even if out of waranty, Only problem is that this model of laptop will not be fixed. This was not an inexpensive laptop, but Sony won't correct the problem with the video card.
