I also have an early RCA universal remote with the number 97P04730 stamped on the battery cover. I do know if that is the part number for the remote. There are buttons labelled TV and VCR, presumably to select which device the buttons will work for. This remote has a "search" button, but no "code search" button that is found on later RCA remotes. I have spend several hours searching the net for any information on this device. The only thing I found was a post that claimed this early remote is programmed by pressing and holding the device button (TV or VCR) and simultaneously entering the device code. Because this is a very old remote, it probably uses 3 digit codes. There are several places that list RCA 3 digit remote codes. I have tried to program mine this way, but I have not been successful. Possibly my remote is not working correctly, but it is putting out IR.

Find the three digit code for your TV in

You'll have to do a code search to program your RCA 3-in-1 RCU-703 Remote.
Turn on your Haier TV.
Press and hold the CODE SEARCH key until the indicator light turns on.
Release the CODE SEARCH key.
Press and release the TV key. The indicator light will blink once and remain lit.
Press and releae the OFF-ON key until the component turns off. (you may have to press the OFF-ON key up to 200 times)
When the TV turns off, press the ENTER key. The indicator light turns off.
Your should now be able to control your Haier TV.

4. Release CODE SEARCH.
5. Press OFF/ON repeatedly until the device turns off (you may have to press up to 100 times at a rate of once per second).
6. Once the device turns off, press and release ENTER.
7. With the device on, press any other button. If the device responds, no further programming is required. If the device does not respond, repeat steps 1-6.

Programming a device using the Code Lists:

1. Find codes for each device and brand below.
2. Press and "HOLD" CODE SEARCH.
3. Press and release the TV, VCR or Cable button you want to set up. If programming AUX for a device, press and release AUX first and then the device to be programmed (TV, VCR or Cable). When the selected device button flashes proceed to the next step.
4. Enter the three digit code from the TV, VCR or Cable Box code lists.
   
   
5. Release CODE SEARCH.
6. With the device on, press another button, for example CHANNEL UP. If the device responds, no further programming is required. If the device does not respond, repeat steps 1-5 using another code number from the lists.

I would check/replace the batteries. The backlight draws alot more power than the rest of the unit. The other functions could work but no backlight with weak batteries.
