The lens cap ring fell off and I purchased a replacement ring and lens cap from Canon. The flaps and springs are intact and the camera still takes great pictures. How do I put the ring and cap back on? They are also sending me dual-sided tape to secure the cap/ring. Any tips since I will not be receiving instructions with the parts. Thanks!

SOURCE: Lens blocked? Canon PowerShot SD1100 IS, recently water damaged

A stuck shutter is another common failure mode for digital cameras. The symptoms of a stuck or "sticky" shutter are very similar to CCD image sensor failure. The camera may take black pictures (for shutter stuck closed), or the pictures may be very bright and overexposed, especially when taken outdoors (for shutter stuck open).

To confirm a stuck shutter, put the camera in any mode other than "Auto", and turn the flash OFF (you don't want to blind yourself for the next step). Next look down the lens and take a picture. You should see a tiny flicker in the center of the lens as the shutter opens and closes. If no movement is seen, then you likely have a stuck shutter. If so, please see the following for further info and a simple fix that may help:

How do i replace lense cover on a canon sx170 is?

Since I cannot see your pieces, I can recommend actual replacement. You can Google your camera's make/model with replace lens cover and pick from the listings. You can also go straight to Canon USA and search their store as they have replacement lens covers. I did this here for another customer as an example.

I have a Canon Powershot SX130 IS and there is dirt behind the first piece of glass in the lens , anyway to clean it?

You shouldn't try to clean this yourself, find a camera shop that does repair or contact Canon, they will direct you to one in your area.

But before anything you better make sure the dust has any impact on the pictures.

SHADOW SPOT ON CANON SD1100 DIGITAL CAMERA SCREEN THAT COMES OUT ON PICTURES

The spot is actually on your camera lens. Try taking the battery out while you are in the shooting mode(lens extended) then clean the lens with a lens cleaner and that should solve your problem.

Canon Powershot; "lense error restart camera" Cannot take pictures due to error. Lense seems to work OK mechanically on start up but has an internal issue causing error.

try these:-
  • connect it to pc and on it
  • vaccum the barrel of lens
  • changing mem. card and batt. for 2min.
  • shake it.
  • on and off in different positions
  • hit the part near lens softly with palm (trust me this made mine work)

I bought a canon sd1100 a year ago. It used to take great pictures. One month ago all pictures taken have been grainy. Do you know why>?

Could be that ISO settings were accidentally changed. The main annoyances with high ISO setting are the noisy (grainy as you say) images. Check the iso settings if you are shooting in modes other than automatic shooting.

Canon A710 IS Automatic Lens Cover Assembly

I would not try to fix that lens cover issue. I would call Canon and send in for service or upgrade to another camera through their Canon Loyalty program.
Deep discounts!

You should be able to set the resolution by hitting function set, going to the bottom left corner and choosing another resolution. I'm not sure if this helps, but it is true that if you set resolution lower, you will not get the quality if trying to make large print.
