Network Key (WEP, WPA, WPA2 Encryption key)To connectyour computer to a wireless router, you click the Refresh networklist, then Choose your wireless network and then click Connectto your secured Wireless Network, it will asks for a Network Keybefore allowing you to connect into your wireless network. This NetworkKey is either the WEP, or WPA or WPA2 Encryption key that is used toconfigure the Wireless Router. The Passphrase is an alternate way tosetup the Encryption key.
When you are requested for a Network Key, you can just enter the Passphrasethat was used to configure the Encryption key in the wireless router.http://www.fixya.com/support/r5270415-network_password_network_addressFor information on securing your wireless network,configuring the wireless router and configuring the wireless card in thelaptop/computer, please click on this link and follow my instructions :-http://www.fixya.com/support/r3559128-wireless_router_security
CONTINUAL DISCONNECTION OF WIRELESS CONNECTION
There are a few things that can cause you to lose wireless connection with your wireless router.
1. Weak signal strength, check the signal strength on your wireless card. If it is weak move the wireless router away from brick or concrete walls and if possible locate the wireless router higher up.
2. Have you secured your wireless router from people near your from unauthorized access? i.e. change the default password, setup encryption use WPA2 or WPA, change the default SSID, and turn off SSID broadcast, and for added protection, enable MAC address filtering which allows only the MAC address/es of your wireless card/s to connect to your wireless router.
3. You could be getting interference from electrical sources such as air conditioners, arc welders, washing machines etc. If so, the power supply to the wireless routers and computers etc should be connected to a surge protection power board, better still connect your computer equipment to an UPS (Uninterrupted Power Supply).
4. Check the channels of the wireless routers and access points in your area and change the broadcast channel on your wireless router to an unused channel or one that is currently used but has the weakest signal strength. This will minimize interference with your wireless router from other wireless routers and access points in your area.

That is because your router isn't made to be compatible with windows vista, meaning that your only solution is to get a router that is (i.e. Linksys or Netgear)

I had a similar problem when the power goes out or surges on my 2310. What I did was replace the network cable that connects the Dlink to the 'puter and it worked for me. But I'm still at a loss as to why it works this way. Could be the cheap cables. It was a cheap fix.

i believe it supposed to be
modem--> vonage -->router
-->phone

Hi kinobe. You have to check when you connect your computer to one of the ports on the back of the router you get a light on the front of the router. If you dont get anything on any port (even when you connect the modem to the internet/WAN port - that means that one "transistor" inside of the router it's bad. So you have to open it and fix it (but that's electronic repair and you need to have the proper skills and get the exact transistor). There's a posibility you can still connect to the router wirelessly because that's another circuit in the router but If you dont get signal from the modem to the router it's pointless so you have to replace the router. I hope this helps and don't forget to rate and write positive feedback for our fast - free support today. Thank you :D

The first question I have is why is your answer to the service (works mostly)? To create a wireless network you need a consistent connection to the internet. It sounds like your provider is not living up to their service contract. You need to get this resolved before you can create a reliable wireless network.
Do you have a consistent service to the internet?
Once you have this we can set up the router for wireless service, set up a secure network, and you will be able to use your laptop as a wireless unit.
If you plan to use this router to connect to gaming, this router D-Link DIR-615 will not support gaming. You will have to update it.
If you need a manual you can download one from
http://www.dlink.com/products/?tab=3&pid=DIR-615&rev=DIR-615
Let me know when you have a consistent connection to the internet. Thanks.

When I have it set secure is when I get the problem . If I am unsecure, no problems. If I remain secure then I periodicly have to unplug my router for a while. When I plug it back in it will work for a day and then again will disconnect. maybe the router is bad?....but why does it seem to work fine when unsecure?
