Uninstall the generic driver from your computer first. (It's probable that you installed the OS driver which only runs the printer. If you leave this in place then you will confuse your computer.) Then disconnect the data cable before rebooting the machine. Now install the software from above.
A few days ago my HP Deskjet, 4100 Series, All In One printer just stopped working in the middle of printing. I got a new power cord/power pack and now the light comes on but there is no response when I try to print. It is as if the machine is not even turned on.
