Dell Dimension 8400 ( ALL file record segment are unreadable ) I got the pc from my father so I dont know what happend to it. When you start it up it goes to checking "file record segment ...... is unreadable. All are unreadable, none of the "file segments" will read. It starts trying to read them and starts at like 7316 and goes through the next 20 then jumps to # 40356 and then to #72786. none read and it has been trying for an hour or more. Everytime you restart it, it will start over and none are readable. What is the problom and haw may I fix it? Better yet is it worth fixing?

Dell Dimension 8400 PC"s use either Broadcom Extreme Ethernet controllers OR, on SOME models of the 8400 that do NOT have ON-board Ethernet connections, SMC Networks Ethernet Drivers. I've seen MANY a Dell Dimension.

You maybe need to unzip the file before you install.

Here is only drivers for win xp.

You can`t download a setup disk but you can call dell support
to order the software from them (if they still have it) by the service tag.

copy the outlook.pst file for Outlook users...
copy the Identities file for Outlook eXpress users

go to start button than click goto accoriess and click tham system tools(this is where most are located) than go back or restore you will see dates you can choose to go back to.Pick the date you think where it was working its best and restore.if it works good your done if not you will than need to go to add and remove on controll panel find your printer and or the soft ware and remove it all than disconnect printer from computer completely.Than turn computer off than re boot now you have no printer put in the soft ware for your printer and follow guide or turn compurter back off plug in printer again to compurter on turn on printer and conputer your operating system will pick it up and give you step by step on the finnish

no man try to take out the modem ( last pci slot on the botom of the board) and see if you have any luck if not you going to need a new motherboard thanks and good luck

Choose last known good configuration first. If that does not work try to go in safe mode. Once in safe mode try to do a system restore n if successful, it will work in the normal mode too. If does not go info safe mode then PC restore is the only option. If the partition which contains pc restore utility also is corrupted then reinstall windows.

well what you can try is
1.) Cleaning your registery out
2.) deleting all temp files
3.) defragmenting your registery

to do all the above you can use a product know as tune up utilities aviable here www.phazeddl,com type yune up in the search box and search it

4.) defragmenting your harddrive
to to this go into my computer
right click on local disc and click properties.
clicl tools the defrag

5 delete your preftech files
they are located in c:\windows\prefetch

6 empty your recycle bin

7 restart


ensure you have 16x media and your burningspeed is set to 16x

4x media means you can only burn at 4 8x at 8 or below, 16x at 16 or below

if all fails then you need to format and reinstall
