Hi Simlei.
If its a modern, fairly new drive, it should have built-in firmware, without a need for extra drivers.
If you OS is old the OS itself may not be recognizing the drive's 'language', especially if the bus-width differs, ie 16/32/64bit.
As 1 TB is quite recent on SSD's, I guess its new.
My 1 TB Toshiba just plugs into USB and Win Explorer detects it as a storage drive.
Regards, Clive.

SOURCE: how to install a new seagate hard drive?

I have one thats ide ultra, & my computers see it as a disc drive, like a cd drive when i put it in an external seagate case. but when i put it in as an internal it shows up in cmos w/ 320 g space, & no matter which pin config i use it doesnt show when the os is booted. I enabled LBA like it says on the drive, & tried all the other options in CMOS & havent got it to go yet, but it sounds like its running perfectly when it powers up. it'll go, but its actin crazy. ill post it when i get that bastard.

SOURCE: computer does not recognize mY SEAGATE BARRACUDA 7200. 11 500 GB

Try using your SEAGATE Hard Disk on another PC , if it works then you have one of these problems,
1. Your USB Port in your PC (Or Laptop) is broken and you have to get another one*
2. You have a software problem (Try reinstalling your OS or scan for viruses).
3. The USB Cable has a problem (get a new one).

(*) some technician can replace your USB port or fix it, or you can buy a "USB Hub"

You will have to go to the Seagate website and download the drivers from there for it for your operating system.

Bios cannot read hard drive

Hi Robert,

IT could be that the Barracuda drive is formatted for boot up. I would boot up with the drive that boots, and make the Barracuda a spare drive, so you can go in and first see if has any issues as a drive,(meaning sector 0 errors, and if you can access it, then you can format it as a boot up drive, or get what data on that drive off for your friend.

Good Luck Mark

I bought a 1T 7200 as a second drive. I was sold a sata cable only do i need a power cable also?

All SATA drives need a signal cable and a power cable, but usually these cables already exist inside your computer waiting for you to use provided that your motherboard allows for an additional drive.

3.5" Dynex USB 2.0 External Enclosure + Seagate Barracuda 7200 RPM 500 GB HDD problem with computer recognizing the HDD and the enclosure

If your running XP , go to control panal , Admin tools>Computer Management >Storage > Disk Management . Look for it there . If its there see if it says what file system . If none format it . If it isnt there then chack the jumper on the hard drive it self . It should be set to master or cable select .
