Missing password and printer connection

I purchased a printer that can be connected to my wireless network, however I have forgotten the password. Is it possible to connect this printer to my network without purchasing an entirely new system. I have misplaced the set up CD.

What is my login password?

The default EWS (embedded web server) Username is 'admin' in lower case. If you have forgotten the password you can reset it. After completing the steps below you will have to setup your printer again to connect to your own network.
1. Select the wireless icon on the front panel of printer to access wireless menu.
2. Select settings.
3. Scroll to the bottom and select restore network defaults.
4. Select ok.

How to change your wireless network password. Forgotten wireless password.

Hi. Thanks for looking!

Due to the fact that many questions are being asked about routers and wireless networks I decided to put little tutorial together .

· How to change my routers password (forgotten password)

Since you forgotten your password and can not connect to wireless network you will need an Ethernet network cable in order to connect to router.

Before doing anything else switch your computer on and make sure that your router is on also.

1.
Connect Ethernet cable to your routers free port at the back and the other end to your PC/Laptop network port.
Once you get confirmation that you are connected to the network (you should notice this in the task bar right lower corner of the screen)

2.
Open your internet browser and type 192.168.1.1 in the address box and press enter. If this don'ttake you to the site asking for username and password please do the following.Click Start and choose run (below search) type "cmd" in the box and press enter. This should start a command prompt where you need to type in "ipconfig" and press enter. This should show you information's about your network. Default gateway address will be an address that you need to type in your browser box.

3.
Once you get to the login page, provide your username and password. You should be able to find this in your manual for router but if you can't you can find it hear--->click hear.

4.
Please note that since there's so many router vendors instructions in step 4 may vary, but these are basic.-
When you logged in to your router settings page please find wireless tab and choose security. Get to the password box and change password to whatever you like.

5.
Remember to save changes before quitting. Now unplug your cable and try to connect to your network wireless, using your new password.

Bravo! You just completed password change.

WIRELESS GATEWAY

How to View or Change Your Wireless Network Password

Symptoms:

You have lost or forgotten the password to your wireless network
You have lost or forgotten the password for the router, access point or other network device
You left the default password or used a weak password and someone has hijacked your network

Depending on the router, you can either view or reset the wireless network password (also referred to as the passphrase or security key) if you can log into the router. Some routers mask the wireless network password, so while you cannot recover it, you can enter and save a new password.

If you cannot log into your router because you have forgotten the router password or your network has been hijacked, please refer to "Lost or forgotten password for router or other device" below.

To view or reset a wireless network password:

Launch your Internet browser and type http://www.routerlogin.net in or http://192.168.1.1 or http://192.168.0.1 the address field for your browser. Enter the router's username and password.
The default username is admin, the default password is password.
From the left-hand navigation menu of the Router administration interface, select Set Up > Wireless Settings
Note: On some routers this option will be under BASIC > Wireless.
From the center screen, you find the current wireless security settings under the Security Options heading.

If the wireless network passphrase is visible, review it and use it to log devices onto your network.
If it is not visible, you can change your wireless passphrase; however, changing the passphrase will cause you to lose your wireless connection. Connect your computer to the router with an Ethernet cable before entering a new passphrase into the text box and clicking Apply.

Read more about Securing your Wireless Network.
If you cannot log into your router:

- If you were routed to the NETGEAR website or getting the "Page cannot be displayed" message when trying to login to router, make sure you are connected to the NETGEAR router. Check your wired connection and make sure cable is securely plugged in and LED is on. If wireless adapter is on, make sure you are NOT connected on a different wireless network.

- Unfortunately, there is no way to recover a lost or forgotten password from a router or access point; you will need to reset the device to factory defaults. However, once the device is reset to factory defaults, you can use the default access information to reconfigure your router settings. NOTE: Restoring factory defaults on a device will erase any customizations you have made. You will lose any configurations saved to the device!

How to hook up a wireless printer to a computer

Does the printer also have some "wired" interface (parallel-port, or USB-port)?

If not, then you need to purchase a router with wireless capability:

1. Connect cable-modem (or DSL-modem) to the 'WAN' (or 'IInternet') port on the router.

2. Connect one of the 'LAN' ports on the router to the network-port on your computer.

3. Configure the wireless-adapter inside the router:
* set an SSID -- the "name" of your wireless network
* encryption-level -- use 'WPA' or 'WPA2'
* a password for your network

4. Configure the wireless printer to connect to that SSID, using the password

5. On the computer, click "Add Networked Printer"

6. Print a "test" page: computer -> wired -> router -> wireless -> printer

Hi, I just purchased a Xerox Work Centre 4118 for my office. I have Windows 7 Professional and am unable to Print via wireless. I receive a message that the Printer is offline. Would you be able to...

http://www.support.xerox.com/support/workcentre-4118/downloads/enus.html

The above links to the drivers page, but unfortunately, I do not see specific Windows 7 drivers for this printer. This means that older XP or the latest drivers from the year 2008 are used in emulation mode, maybe, for Windows 7.

Since this is not a 'new' printer, I gather, it will not guaranteed to work with Windows 7. However, I would try the link above for various drivers which may or may not work on this printer.

The fact that the Printer is shown to be offline, is a bad sign.
I read that the printer in question has the following connectivity:

But, that it doesn't support WiFi.

USB, Parallel, optional 10/100 BaseT Ethernet.

I have forgotten my password for my wireless internet connection.

Connect to Wireless router using LAN cable.
Open Router admin page using the gateway address you get from your network status window from Systray (Support tab in XP).
Follow router instruction to set new WLAN protocol and Password (WPA-PSK for better protection) and use new passphrase (or Key) to set PC client network card protocol.
If Router is Password protected and you missed it: reset to factory settings to reconfigure.

Secure network

WIthout the exact model # of the router I cannot be exactly sure. Usually, you would connect to the router via an IP in your web browser such as http://192.168.1.1 and then enter a name and a password to get in. Then you would go to where you can change your wireless password. If the password you are missing is the one to get into the router, you must reset the router itself. There should be a button on the front or back of the router to do this. Hold it down for about 5 seconds to reset it.
