Have 4 units,2 blueand 2 yellow ones.when using ptt button the light indicator gets on then it shuts off second after while still holding ptt button...all of them had the same problem..using only 1 channel since first use and no changes made in settings.i have this for almost 2yrs now and used only occassionally and just recently i experienced the problem..one unit after another.....pls help.thanks alot.-jim
It is possible you have a battery or charging problem. Transmitting takes more energy than any other function of the radio. Pressing the PTT can quickly reveal a bad or poorly charged battery pack. Check your charger, clean all battery contacts on the charger and radio with a pencil eraser and try charging again. Also, you can try changing a battery out of a known good unit and see if the problem moves with the battery.

On a Motorola AXU Series (including the 4100):
1. To unlock, press the “D” button for about a second or until the circle is gone. The circle with the line thru is the keyboard lock indicator;
2. To change channel, you need to press either the arrow left or right in Normal Mode;
3. To change PL (assigned to a channel), don’t think this can be done by the user
4. To change Ch. 1 from 464.500 MHz (PL-67.0) to 463.525 (PL-136.5), don’t think this can also be done by the user.
Even the built-in Programming Mode Parameters do not have this option to change assigned frequencies and PLs. An external programming software using a PC may or may not allow this.
These radios came pre-loaded with its channels assigned with specific frequencies/PLs. As used in a Motorola AXU411, they are:

A couple of things you can try:
1. Use electronic contact cleaner (spray type) on the PTT switch;
2. Use an external speaker/microphone and/or handsfree VOX headset
3. Replace the PTT switch. 4 solder points. Might not be easy but doable.
The last would require that you remove the defective PTT switch and use that as per sample when looking for replacement. Some printers uses the same type of switch. Familiarity with electronic components/circuitry, use of a DVM and a soldering iron would also be required.

swap batteries if does not work this unit should need repair or replace, display blinking can be produced for power failure ( battery, contacts, circuits) or can be a controller issue.

Not certain what order you are doing it, so I will type a brief explanation:
With the radio turned OFF, hold in the PTT and the MON, while turning the radio on. Continue to hold the PTT and MON until the radio stops making noise. You are then in programming mode and can use the menu button to walk through the stages of programming.

Among the things which might be wrong with your radio, you could have an intermittent PTT button or a weak/bad battery. The PTT button has an internal button attached to the component board. Over time the button wears out from continued use, or it gets bent further way from the external portion of the button and simply doesn't make good contact. Also, a weak battery can give the same symptoms, as it takes more energy to transmit than to receive. Try a known good battery in the radio and see if the same problem persists. Either way, a visit to your local dealer could probably give you a free diagnosis.
