How do I open a eMachine ez1601-01

what file are you trying to download? It is opening in Note Pad because it doesn't know what else to open it in. You need to associate the file with the correct program. If it is a movie file then associate it with Media Player. If its a document then you need to associate it with Word etc.

The eMachines ET1331G desktop computer uses the eMachines NexGen 3 computer case.

Looking at the computer from the Front, the Left Side Panel removes.

Looking at the back you will be viewing the Right side.
There are two screws to remove, then the side panel is slid Back. (Towards the rear of the computer)

There is a raised protrusion in the middle of the Side Cover on the back. This is where your fingers go to pull back on the Side Panel.

There is one screw coming down from the top, on the edge of the Side Panel, and one screw coming up from the bottom.
(Philips head screws)
Remove them.

Slide the Side Panel back. It will only slide back so far, as there are tabs coming from the Side panel, into slots of the computer case.
Once it stops sliding back, take it straight out to the side. Lay the Side Panel aside.

Static WILL fry out (Short Circuit) the hardware components in a computer.

Computer on a table, computer unplugged from power, computer case open.
TOUCH the metal frame of the open computer case to relieve your body of Static.

Should you leave your computer in the middle of working on it, be SURE to touch the metal frame again upon your return.

update your driver software for the cd/dvd drive that you have just go to the emachine support website lookup your computer and download the drivers for the drives if that doesnt work it might be a loose connection in the case open the case and make sure all the connections in the case are connected tight and right to the cd/dvd drive

If you are comfortable with opening your machine, you should power down, open case, disconnect the eide cable and power cable from drive. Reconnect both, close case, and power the machine back on. Allow Windows to recognize as new drive.
You could also try updating the drivers under Device Manager as well.

there is a recessed button on the face of the edge of the drive..press it in, and the tray should open..

which if bios u have to clear your bois setings.
for that iopen the case of cpu.
then u see cmos cell put back those cmos cell from its case for 20 minutes then resrt the pc.
set again its original space.
if ur prompt again for password u also set jumper which is nearly that cmos cell.
set in 2-3 position then restrt the pc then go to bios setup
clear your bios password.
then save settings
then again set the jumpoer in its position.,
