So I'm having the exact same problem with my tv that you had meaning the blue ghosting in the picture. I tried to fix it via the convergence menu but it was impossible to get it right so I'm assuming I have to fix the IC's on my tv as well. My question is I've never done anything like this so would it be wise to try it myself or pay the estimated repair of over 200 bux to get it fixed by a professional? The tv itself cost me 300 from a family friend so I don't really want to spend as much on the repair as I did on the actual tv. Thanks for any feedback.

The convergence amps have most likely failed. That unit takes two STK392-110 (Sanyo) amps. For more reliability I'd have them changed using an STK392-150. They have a greater amperage and higher heat tolerance.
It's clearly a job that you want a qualified shop to do.. Call around and get some off-the-cuff estimates on what they charge to change out the convergence amps and tell them that you would prefer they use the 150's instead of the 110's.. They'll probably wonder how qualified you are. :)

Something is not right here. Is there any possibility that you can get the circuit designation (Rxxx) of the resistors that were "incorrect"? I am not aware of anything like this that can cause the "memory to be erased". The only memory in that area would be the factory convergence settings which can be modified from the service menu. Please try to supply the resistor IDs and I'll check on this.

yes you can get the PT47WX49 convergence repair kit at the following link listed under their Panasonic kits category. The kits contain the two Convergence ICs and the feed resistors plus a CD which has the installation instructions. www.tvrepairkits.net

This set uses two Stk-392-110 convergence IC chips; both need to be replaced along with any of the 2.2. ohm light blue resistors around them; a bad resistor will be white in the middle; You can buy both for less than 13 dollars plus shipping on Ebay.
The chips are located on metal heat sinks with fins and are side by side. They are black(about 2 inches wide by 1 1/2 tall) and should have the STK-392-110 number printed on them in white.
Depending on your level of skill at this kind of work you may be able to do it yourself---if you need step by step instructions contact me---I have them in Microsoft word---start to finish repair including what you will need to do it.
If you are not able to do the repair yourself now is the slow time of year for TV repair shops----It should be fixable right in your home and the repair takes about an hour--I have done hundreds of these sets--some shops charge 300-400 but I do lots of them for 200-250 total cost. Make sure whoever you get changes BOTH of the chips!
Shop around and if they say "needs to go to shop" keep looking; any good tech can do this right in your home.

hello the problem is down to the convergance ic, there are 2 big black chip that sit on metal frame called a heatsink they are usually located behind the tuner board on the right side of the tv,stk-110 may be the part number, also in front of the ic are some resistors and 2 capacitor at either end these will need to be tested ,
you have to desolder 1 end of the resistor so you get a proper reading on the mulitmeter, it's lot of work but if you can do it yourself it would cost about 40 to 60 pound good luck
