I have a client that has a DP-300U print server, using LPT1 on the Print server. The unit was working fine until recently (last few months), where it is no longer able to be seen on the network, accessed with browser, or accessed with included management software. After recycling the ac power several times to the unit, and then substituting a temporary (known good) ethernet cable directly from the printer server to the switch, I still experienced failure and replaced the unit with a new one. I could then immediately access the new unit and went through and created a new printer and print server port on each workstation as per instructions using, custom/LPR choices and found the print server would drop off the network after each test page was printed and would need to be powered off and back on again to become available, until the next print page was sent and it would then again fall off the network. So I changed from custom/lpr to standard/generic and each station was then able to print a test page to print server without requiring the DP-300U to have it's power recylced each time. The replacement unit worked fine for about an hour and after sending several jobs to the printer the server once again is becoming inaccessable, until the power is once again recycled to the unit. It does it intermittently, sometimes after each print job, sometimes after several print jobs. But it will always fail in a short period of time and will need to have the power once again recycled. All users are running XP Pro SP2, I have checked the firmware and the version in the Print Server is reported as 2.0, although the latest according to Dlinks website is 1.2. I have installed the latest print drivers for the HP4050 laser printer being used. The ip address is the default 192.168.0.10. The unit itself is plugged into an American Power 500va UPS, providing a source for consistent computer grade power. This certainly not the first time I have had less than satifactory results with DLink Print Servers. But I assure you it will be the last. I have experienced similar problems with their units resulting in unacceptable high failure rates. Most occuring within months of use. Each of those sites have had the eqiupment replaced with another brand and have experienced no further problems. I have been installing networks since 1986 and am not new to this type of installation. I have this site and one more that are still running Dlink print servers, and I suspect come next week I will be down to one.
This print server is a problem child. Lack of sufficient buffer memory and every ever-so-slight voltage change causes this print server to die. DLink has NO good print servers as far as I'm concerned. You should replace the "other" remaining print server as soon as possible, unless you get paid for the onsite call. I've had experience with this unit. My last experience with it, though, was when I unpinched the unit from between my thumb and forefinger over a garbage can. ZT3000 "Beta tester of "0"s and "1's"

You may use the PSAdmin software to configure your print server even if you don't know the IP address. The only requirement is that the DP-300U has to be in the same network (subnet) as your PC running PSAdmin. In the PSAdmin, you will then be able to view or change the IP address.

Remember that if you also have forgotten the Admin password, you will have to ship the unit to D-Link in order to have it factory reset.

Try using the psadmin software to do a factory reset. If it demands a password to do this, try using "SYSxxxx" (where xxxx stands for the last four digits of the MAC address written on the underside of the server. If you don't have the psadmin software you may be able to download it off the internet. After doing the reset you will need to follow the Quick Install Guide to set up the server. In my case, it came back as 192.168.1.253. After changing the IP on my laptop to fit that subnet, I was able to log into it via it’s web interface (there was no password on it thank God!) and put it back to factory settings. Voila! What once was a brick is now a working print server!882 views

HI,im having D-Link DP-300U print server.the problem is that the device often goes to sleep state and needs to be restarted again and again until it works!, if anyone has the solution for this i'll b very gratefull.

I have three laptops wirless and two with windows Xp Pro work's fine using
the DP300U printserver and a Linksys WRT 54GS router on the third Toshiba laptop I am using Vista and I keep loosing my printers by them going offline and can not be put online untill you delete and reinstall.
Cant get any help including Microsoft ??
Same problem as describe - the print server goes off line and will not respond for my HP Laser Jet 1100A on the parallel port. It takes several power off recycles before it works again.
