If you remove the kickplate thats located in the front lower part of the machine you will find a tech sheet in there with directions on how to activate the diagnostic mode and have the machines cpu run test on all the parts and tell you what the problem is

I don't know if you can reset the error, tncarter. The "F11" error is a Serial Communications problem between the Central Control Unit (CCU) and the Motor Control Unit (MCU). Bascially this a communications problem between the main computer (the brains of the washer) and the motor controller which drives the wash tub motor. This is usually an indication of a failed main computer.

If you remove the lower panel under the door, there is a tech sheet provided by the manufacturer that explains all the fault codes and how to troubleshoot them. There's also helpful diagrams to assist in locating components. The panel is removed by taking the three torx type screws off under the bottom edge. HINT: Propping up the front feet of the washer with something can help accessing the screws much easier. The tech sheet will be directly behind the bottom panel, or located along the interior cabinet walls.

Now, to get the door open so you can get to your clothes: First, UNPLUG the washer. With the bottom panel removed, reach behind the the front panel from the bottom on the side where the door latch is located. Feel for a round tab at the bottom of the door latch and pull straight DOWN. This is the manual release for the door.

You can run diagnostics by referring to the tech sheet as well. Try running the diagnostics sequence to see if the problem persists. If there is no tech sheet available, or you need further assistance, please post back and let me know.

Most parts you need can be found at repairclinic.com. Just type in your model number in the Search menu and a complete parts index is available. Searspartsdirect.com also carries the parts, but at a higher price. The sears website includes helpful diagrams that the previous site does not, however.

I hope this information is helpful to you.

Plug off the wall. Open up behind, you will see a thin tube coming down from the control panel (pressure switch to be precise) to the waste area below. Disconnect this carefully from the top, blow into it, air should pass thru, it shd not be clogged; refit carefully. Before refitting, fit a similar tube to the pressure switch & blow - you should hear a click; if not there shd be a problem with your pressure switch. Anyway refit your old tube & try the machine.

Dont forget to refit the main exit hose at the position you found it. All you guys are going to rate me....................

SOURCE: Whirlpool Duet HT GHW9400PL0

Thanks to Coldcut and several others, I have followed the trail of problems and solutions and successfully fixed the annoying (to say the least) FDL and F11 error codes issue on my Whirlpool GHW9400PL0 purchased in 2005, broken in 2008. I too was extremely frustrated with a load of wash taking 1 or 2 days to complete. Some of the fixes (unplugging the washer for an hour, simultaneously pressing start and cancel) worked temporarily, but eventually I had to call for service. Before that, I fearlessly took the door lock unit apart (not recommended) and reinstalled it. It did not work. I ordered a new door lock. It did not fix the issue. Coldcut already knew that would not work but I tried it anyway. Not a big ticket item and I was afraid to muck with the CUU circuit board.

The whirlpool service center sent a repair guy out within the week, but he failed to show on the scheduled day. Calls to the service center confirmed that he was on his way. An hour late, the service center confirmed I was next on his schedule. Two hours later, I asked to speak to a manager who listened to my compaint and informed me in no uncertain terms that they did not care about customer satisfaction and would not be interested in monitoring their repair partners. I am so glad I took a half day off work without pay to wait for someone who did not value my time. I told the service center I would never buy another Whirlpool appliance and they politely told me that "it was my decision". Indeed.

The repair guy showed up the next day (another no pay day), asked me what the error code was, checked his computer, and informed me I needed a new CCU at twice the price of major online parts suppliers. I sent him away after paying the $80 service fee, and ordered a new CCU online.

With the new CCU on the way and nothing to lose, I took the CCU out of the machine. gaga24008 had wisely advised to be careful prying the board out of the case (thank you) and following Coldcut's instructions I resoldered the relay legs with my circa 1968 Wen soldering gun. Put everything back together (I had previously removed and replaced every connector in the entire machine) and waited for the 6 whimpy relay clicks to prove it didn't work-- but it did work! I've completed 15 or so loads of wash since, and no problems. I'm hanging on to my expensive replacement CCU just in case. I'm wary of the postings which refer to immediate problems after installing a new CCU. My next step will be to hang the dang thing by a bungy cord. Thanks to the many people who have posted solutions to this aggravating issue. I'll be visiting FixYa for any future issues with my tools and appliances.

Switch machine off for approx. 10 min. then with water open, try and select a short wash cycle and let it finish. Also push the door firmly in before you retry because you have been trying before to open it.(latch might not be correctly closed).

What is code DLF

are you hearing a clicking sound and possible f11 as well with the FDL?
DL means door lock failure but if you are hearing a clicking sound that is comeing from the back of the unit toward the center rear that is your control board.
inspect your door lock first
at the top of the door lock you should see a button that you can press in and out is it still there?
if yes you have a bad control board
let me know how it goes

you can manually open the door by first unplugging unit from power, then remove lower toe kick panel under door, reach up to find the door latch assembly and feel for a small tear-shaped plastic tab located on bottom of door latch and pull downwards 1/4" till you hear a click and door should open manually

I have a whirlpool duet washer front load and its giving me a message of dl f. I can hear it trying to click but nothing happens.

This should indicate a door lock error and the clicking is the door trying to lock. The door is supposed to attempt to lock six times before the dl error is displayed. It is most likely caused by a faulty door lock switch. Hope this helped and best wishes.

F dL symbol on Whirlpool duet HT

It is saying there is a problem with your door Lock. when you close the door does it hold like it use too? try to open and close the door if it doesn't really close properly then you will just need a door latch. If the machine gives you an f11 code then its the main computer board that can also give your the door lock error. I would check the door first though.

Whirlpool Duet won't run

The trouble could be with the door interlock. When the clothes were jammed in the door it could have caused the door latch to put strain on the interlock.
