A345 stuck in movie mode

After being dropped from table height no external damage was evident. The camera was off at the time, the impact caused the battery door to open. When it was turned on again it was in movie mode. Changing the switch to still mode or picture view mode does nothing. It seems to be able to record in movie mode as the time remaining counts down, however I haven't removed the card to see if it is actually recording. I tried removing the batteries and replacing them. No change.

You need to open the camera caseing a small amount. As you put the case back make sure the switch is in the movie position so it will engage the switch inside on the circuit board. Looks like the switch has been knocked off the control inside. If you have been moveing the switch back and forward you may have broken it.

My Nikon D 90 works sometimes flawlessly, then sometimes after I have been shooting for about 15 minutes, it just stops working. It turns on but when you depress the button the "F" just flashes...

The camera and lens are not communicating. There can be a number of causes - in both the camera and lens. The best way to troubleshoot this is to use another lens. If you get the 'F--" from both lenses, the problem is in the body. If you only get the problem with the 18-105, then the problem is in the lens. The problem in the body is usually caused by impact cracking the lead free soldering of the contact unit to the flexible circuit. This is a major repair and I would recommend you go to a professional repair service.

The problem in the lens can also be caused by impact (check for looseness of the mount), the ground pin being stuck down (metal pin in lens mount that is spring loaded), dirty contacts (spillage or water damage), or damage to the contact flex from impact damage to the mount.

Try cleaning the lens contacts with an eraser, or use methal alcohol on a q-tip. always put solvents on the q-tip, never on the camera or lens. Also lightly clean the contacts in the camera's mount.

This camera and lens are plastic and are easily damaged by even minor impact. Impact can be caused by striking the camera against a door frame or table or cabinet when carrying it on a strap - you may not even realize you have done it.

I dropped my camera and it would't turn on

Hi There, Impact damage could cause all sorts of problems. Some may be minor and some major. Unless your an electronics tech or you feel up to opening the unit, you may not know what your actually looking for. A repair shop might be your best bet. If you do open the unit, check for broken cct boards, poor connections especially around where the battery terminals are or where the external power supply plugs in?
Good luck, mr cicmo

Dropped the Camera and now only shows dark "lowlight" screen/recording.

Please check to see if the iris is hung in the lens. Impact damage can cause the damper motor to get stuck which controls the iris in the lens. This can be repaired by removal of the lens and freeing the iris vane assy, but this should only be done by a qualified service tech.

Hope this helps,

Camera stuck in movie mode

If you remove the back cover you will see that there is a switch on the main board wich changes the operation mode for the camera. It's normal position is "movie mode". On the back of the camera there is a know which changes the position of the mode switch - most likely that knob is damaged and would need to be replaced in order to resore normal operation to the camera. Please be aware that Fuji uses special security screws for the camera case to dicourage people from opening the cameras. With the right tools and replacement part this is an easy repair - I could do it for about $30, including shipping back to you - email me at [email protected] if interested, or I could also buy your camera as is.

UNIQUE PROBLEM: Camera stuck on Movie mode

It's a small world. I have an Ixus V2 on the bench with exactly the same problem. The sliding button on the camera mates with a switch soldered to a flat ribbon cable inside the camera. There are two small teeth which move the internal switch left ot right. What's happened is one of those plastic teeth has snapped off the external part and now it can't push the switch anywhere. If you pulled the camera apart you could push the switch into either record or review but that's it. It will stay in either of those positions. Which is a bummer. The only way to fix it is to buy the complete flat cable ribbon with switch attached and boy it's a long cable. Except for sending it away for repairs (expensive) buy a damaged one on Ebay and do a transplant. Just make sure it's suffering the same fault.
